It’s no secret that this TV season saw a rise in the number of female-led sitcoms, and it looks like this lovely trend will continue into next season, too. After renewing New Girl for a second season, FOX has added another quirky-girl comedy to its lineup, created by/starring/produced by none other than BUST cover gal Mindy Kaling! Fans of Kaling know that she has the experience and talent to make a sitcom work. Read More
A few weeks ago when we let you know about an awesome music camp for girls that takes place in New York this summer, I was jealous. “We need that for adults!” I thought. If you had a similar reaction, then you are in luck. The Music Masters Camp Series just announced its first Women’s Music Summit, which will take place this summer at the Full Moon Resort in New York’s Catskill Mountains from August 27 through 31. Since Best Coast debuted the first single, “The Only Place,” from their new album (also named The Only Place), I have been impatiently awaiting the full album (as in, listening to the single, non-stop, on repeat, for days on end). Like 2010’s Crazy For You, the new album puts Bethany Cosentino's sentimental and direct lyrics against a backdrop of waves and sun. Read More
Last night Amy Poehler, living goddess and two-time BUST cover-lady, joined Jimmy Fallon on Late Night for a hilarious interview that included five-second celebrity impressions and reminiscing about fake movies they've starred in together. As always, Poehler employed her ninja-like improv skills to create ridiculous story lines to go along with the posters. Read More

The Underground Readers

BY Intern Ginny in Arts

Have you checked out a book from The Underground New York Public Library? We haven't either, which is probably because it’s not an actual library, but rather a beautiful blog created by Ourit Ben-Haïm. It's got a straightforward concept: take and post photos of fellow subway riders who are reading books. For such a simple premise, the blog is surprisingly engaging and thoughtful. According to the website:  "The Underground New York Public Library is a visual library featuring the Reading-Riders of the NYC subways. Read More

Last week, a woman with a Kindle sat next to me on the subway on my way to work. Because I am nosy, and because I had just been wishing I had a Kindle, I glanced to my right to admire her light, easy-to-read device. Instead, I immediately caught a glimpse of a rampant sex scene (she was clearly using the largest text setting and leaning forward, in my defense). What was I to do, except continue reading over her shoulder? For the next 10 minutes, I enthusiastically read along with my train companion about the exploits of Jay and Ashlee. Read More

What is the true source of artistic inspiration? Is it divine or mystical? Does creativity come from nature, or from your subconscious? It seems the God of Unbearable Boredom breathed inspiration upon artist Nina Katchadourian on a flight two years ago. After spontaneously snapping a shot of herself with a toilet seat cover on her head in the airplane bathroom and noticing its uncanny resemblance to 15th-century Flemish portraiture, Katchadourian decided to create a whole series of these portraits.
