Students for Free Enterprise USA (SIFE) and Wal-Mart are teaming up to launch an economic empowerment partnership for women.  The project started earlier this year and Wal-Mart will make the announcement of the initiative via a live webcast today (September 14, 2011) from their home offices in Arkansas. SIFE is an international non- profit organization that collaborates with university students and business leaders to develop skills to help students make a difference in their community and become socially responsible business leaders. An upcoming children’s book by author Paul Kramer has come under scrutiny for its message. Maggie Goes on a Diet is aimed for children under 12 years of age and is the story of a 14-year-old girl (she looks much younger on the cover) who attempts to eat healthily and exercise as a response to teasing she receives from her classmates. She then goes on to lose weight and become the star of the soccer team in a Cinderella-like transformation. The book has caused an uproar on sites like Amazon. Read More
Not to put a damper on anyone’s day, but I wanted to touch on the recent controversy surrounding Glee star Heather Morris' and photographer Tyler Shields' new photo shoot. The images show the blonde in a polka-dotted dress surrounded by household appliances, clearly as a Barbie doll figure. That’s not the controversial part. She sports a black eye in the photos as well. Looking through Mr. Shields’ work one can see Morris' photo spread is not the only one that raises eyebrows.
