With the Philly Naked Bike Ride and fall’s SlutWalk Providence quickly approaching, I needed something glitzy to complete my event attire - or non-attire. Yeah, yeah, it’s called the "Naked" Bike Ride, but it’s also an opportunity to wear nipple tassels and pasties and prance around in public. Since I don’t have the funds for the fancy stuff (like these babies from Agent Provocateur), I rolled up my sleeves and crafted my own no-sew nipple tassels. They’re easy to make, and your wallet won't go running for the toilet. Read More
Directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Alice In Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska, Restless has all the bells and whistles to make the love-obsessed 14-year-old in me sing. I walked into the theater with high hopes.  And as the end credits rolled up, I still wanted to like it.Restless is the tale of two youths who are brought together by a shared fascination with mortality. Enoch Brae is a young man struggling to deal with the death of his parents. Read More

It was to take effect on September 1.     U.S. Read More

Apparently, zebra finches (above) understand that it's not about the coloring or the shape of a potential mate's tail feather, but how one shakes it.  A research conducted by a team from University of Exeter, Carleton University, Royal Veterinary College, and University of London has found that adventurous female zebra finches choose mates with similar personalities, regardless of the birds' size or physical features. This is the first study to show that the non-sexual behavior or personalities of both mates influences partner choice in non-humans. Read More

Today marks the 91st anniversary of the signing of the 19th amendment - the right for U.S. citizens to vote regardless of sex - into U.S. law. Women were officially given the right to vote on August 26, 1920 though the amendment was drafted and introduced 42 years earlier by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. They're sure to add a little California to any room in the house, whatever your ZIP code may be.  Even in winter, her "Seasonal Vegetables of California" (above) screenprint will have you thinking 'endless-bounty-and-sunshine', not 'impending-blizzard-of-doom'. (Oh, the joy of living in New England.) Claire Nereim lives and works in Los Angeles. Read More
I confess -  I've been a huge product junkie ever since I could bike to Rite Aid and drool at the rows of eyeshadows and press-on nails. At the ripe age of 12, I was introduced to Sephora and subsequently spent all of my allowance buying neon eyeliners and beauty tools a middle schooler had absolutely no uses for.  Ten years later, I wish I could go back in time and slap little Erina in the face with a piggy bank. But when I do need to pick up a few things, I like to research before I pull out my bills. Read More
