Of all the "perfect home" bloggers out there on the internet, I think I like Yvestown.com the best. This Belgium-based blogger lives in an old house that she is in the process of renovating and redecorating, and her style is fresh and clean but also cozy and sweet, a combination that I really love. And homegirl does a lot with pink. The way she uses it it always looks inviting, never cloying; girly but not Barbie.

She's inspired me to try and use some touches of pink in my home as well. Read More

Last week, Entertainment Weekly released a comedy-centric issue, and used Melissa McCarthy as their cover girl with the headline "The New Queen of Comedy."McCarthy's coronation isn't all that surprising to her adoring fans, given the comedienne's Emmy-winning performance in Mike & Molly, as well as her part in Bridesmaids's box office success. However, we can't deny the true and unexpected significance of McCarthy's new recognition, and what it all means in the grander scheme of things for women in comedy. Read More

Just when I think I can't love Tina Fey any more than I already do, she up and goes and does something to make me love her even harder. In this case, she hosts a 2-hour NPR special called "The Hidden World of Girls." It is so good that I really wish she could have her own series, like a female Ira Glass. Unfortunately, I don't think NPR gives anyone their own show unless they have two things: a shween and a speech impediment. But enough about that. Read More

While Laurie is already on the West Coast (she had a wedding there this weekend), I am just starting my trip to our first stop: Seattle. I'm travelling cross country by train, which I've been doing pretty frequently for the past 12 years -- in fact, the very first time I ever did was for the book tour for the first BUST book, back in 1999.
Anyway, the first part of this 3-day journey is an overnite train trip from NYC to Chicago -- all of Amtrak's trains that go to cities on the West Coast (Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles) originate in that windy city. Read More

I'm really loving the new TV Series, "Up All Night." I think it sort of has the potential to be kind of a 30 Rock, but about parenting. The show has a fantastic cast: Christina Applegate, demonstrating her great comedic abilities; Mr. Amy Poehler, Will Arnett; and our beloved Maya Rudolph as a sort of cross between Oprah and Tracy Jordan. And the fact that the show is written by a woman doesn't hurt, either.
To get a sense of her character's nuttiness, check out this clip here. Read More

As a full-on girl geek, I was, of course, deeply saddened by Steve Jobs' untimely passing this week. I've been using Apple computers since 1989 (fer real!) and bought my first very own machine (a Mac Plus) back in 1991, which cost me $999, USED! (I was already sort of a grown up back then with a job and everything). Read More

This morning I awoke to find the Twitterverse all a'Twitter about kugel. Okay, not really the entire kugelverse, but at least a number of tweets between Julie Klausner and Sandra Bernhard, and that's enough for me. For those not in the Jew-know, tomorrow evening begins Yom Kippur, the most high of high holidays for us Heebs. It's a time for spiritual cleansing, and, just like any other cleanse, part of the ritual is to fast for an entire day - in this case, Saturday. And, in true Jew tradition, the day ends with a celebration of food - and plenty of it. Read More

If you're old enough to remember the SNL skit "Delicious Dish," I've got some exciting news for you: Ben & Jerry's is releasing a new flavor, called "Shweddy Balls", based on the sketch with Alec Baldwin.
What's the ice cream made of? In this imagining of the taste of Alec Baldwin's Shweddy Balls, it features Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with fudge-covered rum and milk chocoloate malt balls. Read More
