A new ad campaign released by “Who Are You?” focuses on bystander intervention when it comes to sexual assault. The video released by the New Zealand organization shows the story of a woman and her friend getting ready to party, and shows other people such as her roommate, a bartender, and a regular guy going about their nights. As the video progresses, the girl drinks more and more, and a guy starts hanging around her. Read More
Okay, so it’s not surprising, but after her interview in Glamour, the web is abuzz with the “news” about the BUST June/July 2010 cover girl.
She told Glamour, “I’m just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f—king feminist and wear a f—king Peter Pan collar. So f—king what?”
Glamour also asked Deschanel if she wanted to have kids, and she had a great response. Read More
Actress Rebel Wilson was just announced last night to be the host of next year’s MTV movie awards. Which will probably be the first time I’ll be watching them since I realized when I was 14 that MTV wasn’t actually cool.
The thing I like about Rebel is that she’s exactly what her name indicates. She embraces her body-type, and has enough confidence to put herself out there. While I wouldn’t say she makes fun of herself, she doesn’t pretend to be someone she’s not. Read More
In the past couple of years, the number of Americans who support same-sex marriage finally surpassed the number of those who oppose it. Data was compiled by Pew Research Center. The numbers show that in 1996, 65% opposed it, while only 26% endorsed it. New data collected this past October shows that 49% are actually in favor of it, and 40% oppose it (which is down 4 % from this past July).
Still, those numbers widely vary in different regions of the U.S. Read More
I tend to get really upset and frustrated when I hear any news about child prostitution. Well, last week a conference on women’s rights discussed how the economic crisis was affecting prostitution. One of the most unsettling effects of the global economic situation is that younger and younger girls are being forced into the sex trade.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) released some figures earlier this year that showed about 21 million people (that’s three out of 1,000 people globally) are forced into labor. Read More
Last week, a video called “The Flip Side (Bar)” went viral, parodying male/female dynamics in the club scene. The video depicts men acting stereotypically female, and vice versa. I love the video for three reasons:
1) It gives humorous insight into the experience of being the other sex in a place where you are expected to embody every possible gender stereotype in existence. It’s easy to lose track, in this video, of which gender is supposed to be embodying which characteristics. Read More
Well, this is terrible: two men have been arrested by Afghan police due to allegations of beheading a 15-year-old girl after her father turned down a marriage proposal.
The young girl was allegedly attacked while she was walking home with drinking water for her family. “Our investigation shows those who killed her were people who wanted to marry her,” a Kunduz province police official told the BBC. The two suspects were also her relatives.
The father turned down the offer because “she was too young to be engaged.” That, at least, sounds hopeful to me. Read More

The Family Research Council is at it again with their anti-LGBT focus. In their “get America back” campaign, three of the four fundraising points are anti-LGBT. The post-election pitch claiming, “truth will win out” (*sigh*), aims to
-Prevent radical homosexual activists from further harming the U.S. military.
-Compel the Department of Justice to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act.
-Challenge the provisions of ObamaCare which undermine families.
-Stop the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Read More
