Jim Jones Revue

BY Laurie in Music

I saw these guys play last night at Mercury Lounge and they were so awesome! Londons own Jim Jones Revue are the real deal,  down and dirty Rock-n- Roll,  all sweat and swagger. They are playing a handful of shows, if they come to your town, grab your wig and go see them! click here for dates. Read More
Comicon 2010 is here.  My bag is packed. Two cameras , one dress, and four pairs of bubblewrap glasses in case I get any messages from the eighth dimension. I started photographing conventions in 2004, when my public access show Dungeon Majesty, was asked to be special guests at KublaCon a gaming convention in San Francisco. As I walked around dressed as my character Mystika, (a chaotic neutral necromancer),  I found instant camraderie with fellow gamers and cosplay enthusiasts. Read More
We're starting a new tradition here at BUST.com. Each week, we'd like to spotlight a man we love and we need your help in order to make a decision! Here are our first nominees (chosen at random by whomever was in my 3 desk radius), make sure to vote by leaving a comment below! 1. Leonardo Dicaprio- a controversial choice who pulled preteen heartstrings in Titanic and Romeo+Juliet before growing up into a serious actor. He's an avid environmentalist, loves his mother, and is starring in the fantastic summer blockbuster Inception. Of course... there was that whole pussy party thing... Read More
Taylor Momsen, 16-year-old anti-role model, apparently has a loud mouth and a BFF vibrator. Not that anyone really cares about celebrities, but we can occasionally learn something from them. In this case, teen sexuality. Specifically, teen girls’ sexuality because most of the world seems to feel that it doesn’t exist, or shouldn’t. Dudes everywhere are jacking off right now (creepy right?) but young ladies everywhere seem to think that masturbating is gross and pleasure can only come from their boyfriends/husbands. Read More
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the macabre and UK artist, Jessica Harrison's sculptures and drawings have tugged that heartstring perfectly. There's just something about porcelain statuette of a late Victorian woman delicately holding her own intestines, a skull lined with teeth, or a high backed chair that looks like it's made out of flesh that makes that little dark part of me smile. I hope that it makes you smile in that way too. Read More
Betty White just gets cooler every day. I don't think I've been this much in love with a celebrity since Orlando Bloom, circa seventh grade— except Betty is actually awesome! Not only does this "Golden Girl" have a 2011 calendar coming out (featuring her posing with sexy shirtless dudes) but also an expectedly adorable clothing line. Proceeds from both the calendar and clothing line go to the charity she is a trustee of, the Morris Animal Foundation. Check out the calendar preview and sample hoodie from Betty. Read More

Take THAT Katy Perry

BY Lisa Kirchner in Music

I admit to stealing this idea (thank you, Eric), but it's so dead on I had to post. Janelle Monae's "Tightrope" may have gotten 23 million fewer hits on YouTube than Katy Perry's "California Girls," but no CGI gummy bears were injured in the making of this video. I think it makes a way better Song of the Summer. Read More

Whose Country Is It, Anyway?

BY mikki in Eat Me

I’ve been following No Country for Young Women on Twitter for a while—the account is a great source of news about women with a career focus—information about things like wage gap research, sexual harassment law, and other feministy work issues. The other day I finally decided to check out their website, which turned out to be a multimedia art project of women telling their stories and how they are negotiating the competing demands of their lives. Wanting to know more, I sent off a few questions to Elena Rossini, the founder. Read More
At this week's Converse: Three Artists, One Song show in Brooklyn, there were incredible mash-up performances by Kid Cudi, Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend, and Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast. The unlikely combination of sweet ballad singing, rapping, and poppy/punky guitar playing made for an incredible summer song that anyone would love, and should push "California Gurls" out of the water. Don't believe me? Listen to "All Summer" below. Read More
Ladies, apparently we’ve been consuming delicious sugary treats without stopping to consider guy's feelings. Even worse, we’ve been tainting them with our cutesy designs and confections. But now thanks to the New York cupcake company Butch Bakery, men can satisfy their sugar tooth without having to jeopardize their masculinity. Owner David Arrick refuses to serve anything that looks remotely like the "frilly, pink-frosted, sprinkles-and-unicorns” cupcakes that us women like. Rather, his cupcakes are made only of the finest of manly ingredients. Read More
