Artist Neil Freeman took subway maps from major cities around the world and posted them online, all to the same scale, without any station names, line differentiation or colors. It's interesting to see how different cities' transportation systems look in relation to each other. Some are really dense, some are sprawling, some take on odd shapes. The site above compares Moscow to a daddy-long-legs, though i think it kind of looks like a neuron without the axon. That's New York up there. I can't decide if it looks like something. It's like looking at cloud shapes. Read More

Super Cool Invisible Car!

BY Web Intern in Arts

This British art student, Sara Watson, spent 3 weeks painting this car to match the lot it's parked in, making it look like it's disappearing into invisibility. A recycling firm, Recycling Lives, gave her the car to paint for publicity. Just make sure you watch where you're walking in this lot. -Liza (Photo via www.lostateminor. Read More
While I was on my way in today, I found myself thinking about women and music. Yes, I realize that sounds a little heavy for pre-10-AM F-train thought patterns. But there it was, a mental feminist musical analysis for my commute instead of the usual people-watching or idle ad-reading. It was brought on by the fact that I was listening to the Thermals on the train and thinking about how they have a female bassist. I realized that I liked the band more after I found out their bassist is a woman. And then I got a little mad at myself. Read More
BUST cover girl Kathy Griffin was on the Late Late Show a couple of nights ago. As usual, she was talking some celebrity trash, this time focused on Heidi and Spencer (''Speidi'') from the Hills. Read More

Make It Work, Marvel

BY Web Intern in General

Tim Gunn: Lovable reality TV star? Yes. Action Hero? ...hmm... This August, Marvel is releasing a new series of comic books set in the fashion industry called Models Inc. It stars a Charlies Angels type threesome of comic ladies left to the sidelines, like Mary Jane from Spiderman, Millicent Collins and Patsy Walker (aka Hellcat). Their Bosworth is, well, who else? Tim Gunn, who for some reason wears the Iron Man outfit. The series will involve them fighting crime within the fashion industry.  The issue, coming out August 26th, deals with two crimes. Read More
I happen to live near the most sexual corner in all of America, Houston and Lafayette, NYC. Above is the latest CK ad on said corner. In case you can't tell, we have 3 gay dudes and what looks like a pre pubescent girl sweating and getting it on. Really, is this working for you Calvin? It makes me throw up a little in my mouth every morning on my way to work. And then I have to discuss it with my 11 and 14 year old daughters, and then I have to guilt-out about making them live in a place where this is considered normal. Ugh. Read More
A girl in California is battling breast cancer earlier than most girls even need training bras. Hannah Powell-Auslam is 10 and she has already had a mastectomy. She discovered a lump on her chest and an ultrasound revealed she has a slow-growing type of cancer, secretary carcinoma. The cancer is in one of her lymph nodes, so Hannah may have to undergo chemo and more surgery. She is the youngest case reported in the US. The youngest case on the planet was a four-year-old in China. She didn't really even know what cancer was before the diagnosis. Read More

Curves in Couture

BY Web Intern in Style

The Australian version of Harper's Bazaar featured ''plus-size'' model Crystal Renn in a couture fashion spread (I put ''plus size'' in quotes because she actually wears a size 12). It' not a special edition about plus sized models. It's not a niche issue for curvy girls. It's a couture fashion spread. With a plus sized model. And she looks just as hot as (if not more so than) skinny, ''straight-sized'' models in the same scenarios. We need more of this! And we need it to come to the US! We need to see women of all different sizes in print. Read More

Apparently the people over at Parker Brothers think they're the hot jock in a nineties movie taking on the task of making over that nerdy, artsy girl into a hot chick. Scrabble has recently been transformed into a glitzy fashion statement that is, of course, covered in pink from head-to-toe. Scrabble used to be reserved for bookworms and girls who wear glasses, but now it's the Scrabble Designer Edition! It 'has style, taste and elegant accessories' and other catchy buzzwords like 'pearlescent,' 'embroidered' and 'fashionable.' Really, all this translates to is your average Scrabble game. Read More
