SXSW Diaries: Day 1

BY Sara Graham in Music

So, Austin is nuts. Not only is SXSW music madness perfectly suited to this a very cool, weird, and musical city, it was a breezy 75 degrees, just delightful for wandering venue to venue to sample BBQ, beer, and bands. Totally a way I can happily spend my day. It's predictably hard to get into good, free shows, because of lines and crowds. After getting my bearings on the venue-packed main drag, 6th street, I was bummed to see an epic line for the Paste Magazine party, which M. Ward headlined. Instead, I headed to Ms. Read More

SXSW by...Southwest

BY Sara Graham in Music

BUST has landed in the middle of SXSW! After departing from Philadelphia  at 6:30 am, and with a two hour delay in Houston, we have finally arrived in Austin! Needless to say, Southwest Airlines was not flying the friendliest  skies today, but all is well, and both yours truly, BUST's Associate Music Editor, and Marketing gal Susan Juvet, are here and ready to fill you in on our rock 'n roll cowgirl adventures.    In true SXSW fashion, I'm crashing with some guy I don't know, who has turned out to be a lovely host. Away We Go trailer

BY Lisa in General

There are so many awesome things about this movie I don't even know where to start. But here goes. The screenplay is by amazing author Vendela Vida and her equally rad hubby Dave Eggers. Maya Rudolph as a leading lady! John Krasinski. With a beard. Wearing nerdy glasses. Hot. Allison Janney, Catherine O'Hara, and Maggie Gyllenhaal top the supporting cast. And it's directed by Sam Mendes, but looks like a sweet, poignant movie with plenty of laughs (unlike the depressing, suckerpunch-to-the-heart films he usually gives us). Opens June 5. Read More

LOOK AT THESE FREAKIN HUMANOID FISH!!! These ladies are the product of one very inbred pond in South Korea, they are the last of their kind because no male-equivalent exists. If you need to know more than that, check out Weird Asian News. Ok, maybe I will be a little esoteric, its a bit of a personal compulsion. Anyways, I was struck by how different of an emotional response a fish gets when it has features resembling our own, even if its just a mutant pond-carp. Read More

Rashida Jones Chats it Up!

BY Jenni in General

Rashida Jones sat down with journalists last week to chat about being more than just another girlfriend in I Love You, Man, exiting The Office, and her upcoming TV show with BUST's fave cover girl, Amy Poehler. Q. Can you talk a bit about your upcoming project with Amy Poehler? A. It's called Parks and Recreation, and it comes on April 9 on NBC. It is a comedy about local government and the challenges that you face when trying to actually execute any kind of project on a city level.  Q. It was amazing that they kept it so mysterious, what the show was going to be about... A. Read More
