In a recent interview with InStyle Magazine, Zooey Deschanel let out a secret- not all women are dying to have babies! Dang it, Zooey, the men weren’t supposed to know!

In all seriousness, though, as someone who is not interested in having kids and hears all sorts of opinions on the topic (“You’re too young to decide!” “You just haven’t met the right guy yet!” “What if someday you’re with a guy who really wants kids?”) it’s super refreshing to have celebrities like Zooey Deschanel and Cameron Diaz, who is totally badass, step forward and say that it’s okay to not want kids. Hopefully more women will feel comfortable admitting their own feelings about children, and finally disprove once and for all the myth that womanhood is synonymous with motherhood.

The fact is, as Diaz said in a recent interview with Esquire Magazine, motherhood isn’t right for everyone. No one kicks up a fuss if a man decides to remain childless. It’s simple sexism that puts pressure on women to have babies, or, if they don't already, want them eventually. We have to stop treating women as a collective consciousness and remember to treat everyone, men, women and gender-neutral, as human beings with a right to their own opinions on parenthood.
