The Perks of Being a Wallflower Trailer is Here

by Intern Christina

In case you guys missed the MTV movie awards (I did, there was a Law & Order marathon and then Girls was on, so I was all booked up), one very significant thing happened outside of a bunch of celebrities taking home a bunch more awards: The Perks of Being a Wallflower trailer happened.

Starring Emma Watson, Nina Dobrev, Mae Whitman, and the relatively unknown Logan Lerman as everyone’s favorite antisocial protagonist Charlie, the film has big shoes to fill. The novel is favorite to many, and has even been called the novel of our generation. I, indeed, love that book, and to be honest, this trailer is making me a little nervous.

The novel’s most iconic line, “and in that moment, I swear we were infinite,” has its tense changed to the present in the trailer. This may not seem like a big deal, but this tiny tweak had me worried about other changes to the screenplay. But after a little more digging via IMDb, I found out that the author, Stephen Chbosky, actually wrote the screenplay for the film. I feel a little bit better about the adaptation now, knowing that it is in the capable hands of the originator.

MTV is being a little greedy with their content, so you’ll have to head over there to check out the trailer. I assure you that it is worth it; other highlights include an adapted popular football chant, Paul Rudd with long hair starring as a progressive teacher, and Emma Watson gettin’ down in a corset for a burlesque Rocky Horror performance. Yeah, that’s happening.
