The Goddess Project: Documenting Real-World Goddesses

by Emma Tilden

Sara Landas & Holli Rae spent a year driving across America in a repurposed school bus. They traveled 10,000 miles, crossed 30 state lines, and interviewed over 100 empowered women committed to creating change in the world around them.  They filmed the interviews and plan to release them in 2015 as a feature-length documentary called The Goddess Project, a chronicle of the amazing women they met on the journey. The film will tell a story of empowerment; it will be an intimate look at the process of finding and harnessing one’s own power.

Landas and Rae are currently in the process of editing their footage, taking all of those inspirational stories and working them into the streamlined, cohesive form of a feature film.  “The women in the footage we are editing are constantly reminding us of the importance of taking care of yourself. In order to recharge mentally, emotionally, and physically, we love to do yoga, go dancing, and get out in nature!”

That’s something we could all stand to remember a little more often. In our hard-work, high-speed culture it can be easy to get caught up and to forget that we’re human beings—we need to practice some self-care. The fact that these ladies are creating a film that will help to remind us to take a collective deep breath, to step back for a second and remember our inspiration, is wonderful.

Though we’ll have to wait a while for them to release the documentary, the two collaborators have recently come out with a short film called SHINE: 10 Women Strip Down and Share Their Thoughts on Beauty and Body Image. The film touches on the idea of being open to vulnerability and sisterhood, and the ways in which our culture can often close us off from these types of experiences.

It seems like these ladies are doing some wonderful work!  I can’t wait to see The Goddess Project when it comes out!
