The Dresden Dolls 10th Bandiversary Tour (And My Pathetic Sob Story)

by Intern Brittany J.

Last Tuesday I received the email of my life. It was from The Dresden Dolls mailing list and as it turned out, which you may already know, the Dolls were heading out on a mini tour, which would be started by a 10-Year Bandiversary show in NYC at the Fillmore. On Halloween, no less! This is frickin’ fabulous, as the pair hasn’t toured in a good three years. In case you are curious, here’s what the rest of the dates look like:

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
With Jason Webley Nov 12th @ Tipitina’s
A special gulf oil spill relief-benefit for BTNEP , an organazation that is working to preserve, protect, and restore the Barataria and Terrebonne estuaries of Louisiana.

ATLANTA, GA
With Lille Nov 13th @ The Buckhead Theatre

LEXINGTON, KY
With Chico Fellini Nov 14th @ Buster’s Billiards & Backroom

ST. LOUIS, MO
With Sleepy Kitty Nov 16th @ The Pageant

CHICAGO, IL
With Mucca Pazza Nov 17th @ The Vic Theatre

DALLAS, TX
With Girl In A Coma Nov 19th @ Granada Theatre

HOUSTON, TX
With Girl In A Coma Nov 20th @ Fitzgerald’s

AUSTIN, TX
With Girl In A Coma Nov 21st @ La Zona Rosa

(Mind you, I have copied all of this from the email, complete with links to the tickets and the touring bands.)

Now, the sad part of this story is that this 10th Bandiversary show on Halloween…well…it’s sold out already. Yep. Gone like yesterday. Boo. However, I am unsure of the status of these other shows, so you’ll have to check them out as soon as possible.

The even sadder part, for me anyhow, is that I was full well and ready to buy these tickets. I swear on all things un/holy I was fully prepared to bust out my laptop and snatch these babies up the moment they went on sale on September 9th at Noon sharp. I even knew where I would crash. Well, I actually got up, got my shit together and stared at this computer screen till my eyes went silly…and as it turned out, the sale ended up getting pushed back to 10 AM the 10th! The next day! (Which…now that I think about it…obviously makes perfect sense…10th, 10AM, 10th Bandiversary… Rats.)
In any case, the issue with this was that I was planning to travel for vacation the next day. Poop! So in the airport, even though our flight was at 10:50 AM, I pulled out my laptop at 10:30 when we finally sat down in the terminal and clicked on the LiveNation link I had made a bookmark the day before. I clicked and typed and the tickets came up, but we were about to board and I had to turn off my computer. I hoped and prayed they’d be there by the time I had access again and sure enough, later that evening when everyone was finally settled, I was able to pull out my computer once more and POOF! They were gone.

So I cried a little. It’s true. I’m a baby. What do you do when you miss out on tickets to your favorite band’s 10th Anniversary gig after they haven’t toured in 3 years and who knows when they’ll tour again??!?! So mock me not, dear reader.

THAT BEING SAID!
I firstly hope this did not happen to you and you go and have a great time for me. BUT if you by chance happen to have two tickets you can’t use anymore for one reason or another (or one, for that matter, ’cause let’s be real, this is something I’d ditch the bf for), send ’em my way. I will gladly scoop them up in full regalia (I even have the striped socks, no doubt) and send you full photographic proof of the wonderful times to be had, so you can feel as if you’re right there with me.

Anywho, to those of you who do get to go to these shows, have a great time! It’s bound to be amazingly fantastical! Here’s a shot of my friend Christina and myself from before my first Dolls concert so you get the full deal here. I could show more and regale you with tales of how ridiculous this night was, but I won’t bore you. Go to a show!

Here’s a video (the first I ever saw and the way I was introduced) to hold you over in case you miss out like me.
