We know you’re going crazy with excitement for the Gilmore Girls revival, so we’ve brought you one more tantalizing clue. Two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, who’s taken Broadway by storm in shows like Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, and Little Women: The Musical, has revealed that she’s joining the cast as a brand new character. She’ll be playing a special role written for her by Gilmore Girls writers Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino, whom she worked with on the ABC Family show Bunheads, and who are returning to write and direct the new Gilmore Girls episodes. Hallelujah!
Sutton Foster in TV Land’s ‘Younger’
We don’t know much yet about Foster’s character, but we do know she appears twice in the four-episode series. Each episode will be devoted to a season, and Foster revealed she’s coming to Stars Hollow in “Spring” and “Fall.” Walking on set, she said, was “crazy” and “beyond”; she’s a “super nerd” and a huge Gilmore Girls fan. So huge, in fact, that when she finished filming her scene with Lauren Graham, she burst into tears.
“Lauren Graham is one of my favorite actresses,” Foster told Entertainment Weekly. Yeah. I’d cry too in the presence of the goddess Lorelai.
Foster’s character also interacts with Babette, Taylor, Miss Patty, and a few surprises that she can’t reveal just yet. (Arrrgh! I know patience is a virtue, but it’s a really annoying virtue). Along with these familiar faces, we’re going to see Dean, Emily, Lane, Luke, and (praise the lord) Jess, who’s appearing in three of the four revival episodes. (And, yeah, he’s even hotter now.) The sad news is that Melissa McCarthy won’t be rejoining the cast as Sookie St. James; she finally revealed why last week.
If you really can’t wait, you can always pass the time by watching the complete seven original seasons on Netflix. We won’t judge.
