Rodarte Fall 2011 Collection

by Laurie Henzel

I was extremely stoked to get an invitation to attend the Rodarte Fall 2011 Runway show today.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the creative sisters behind the label presented a dreamy and inspirational collection that was very “prairie princess” inspired. I saw a lot of hand crafted embellishments, embroidered geometric patches and sweaters that totally looked like hand knit 1970’s relics from a lucky thrift score.
The palette was all earthy taupe’s, pale blues and greens, with pops of black. Long coats with weird cut outs and interesting collars. The skirt lengths were either mid-calf or to the floor.
The crowd was super a-list celeb, so people watching before the show was pretty fun too. I also enjoyed the music, the 2nd song was “Fearless” by  Pink Floyd, and Brian Eno’s “Here Come the Warm Jets” rocked the finale. (It’s important to have amazing music in a show !)

Of course I couldn’t afford even a single hand crafted button from this collection, but it was all so beautiful, I just felt lucky to be in the room!
