Mika Brzezinski of ‘Morning Joe’ is Undermined On Air For Being A Better Anchor Than Her Co-Host

by Claire Filipek

Mika Brzezinski, co-host of the MSNBC show Morning Joe, tries to share a voice of reason about the media’s over- stretching of the missing Malaysian flight, but is continually thwarted by co- host and general jerk, Joe Scarborough.

In the clip, while Brzezinski is visibly annoyed at Scarborough’s newest speculation that the plane could be somewhere other than the Indian Ocean,  she waits her turn to state her opinion that it is time for a topic change. However, as she talks, Scarborough will not let her get a full sentence out without interrupting, shushing, and telling her to calm down. Oh wow, I have neeeever heard a man tell an intelligent woman to be quiet or to calm down while she’s in the process of shutting him down.

Major props to Brzezinski for not losing her cool, like I did at my computer screen as soon as Scarborough said, “You just stop and relax”. His rude patronizing behavior didn’t stop there either. See the video below.

If you’ve seen the show before you know this is not really irregular behavior for Scarborough. In fact, this clip is just a more obvious example of the incessant undermining Brzezinski experiences pretty regularly on the show – which makes it even worse to watch, knowing this wasn’t a one-time thing.  If this is how he treats her on air, imagine what it’s like when the cameras aren’t rolling?

If you edit out her co-host’s incessant disrespect, here is what Brzezinski is trying to explain,

“Because — everyone stop for a second — here’s what we’ve got at this point… It’s 17 minutes past the hour. We shouldn’t be talking about theories. If you want to go to a network that has theories about Pakistan just blared across for hours and hours and hours, you’ve got many choices out there!… But that’s actually capitalizing on a non-story for the sake of ratings because people’s imaginations are pricked by this, and that’s not responsible… We did the plane, we will do the plane, and it will be done again. We will do the facts. We’ve got to go to Ukraine!”

Hell yea, Brzezinski!
