Marijuana Majority: Celebrities Endorse Legalizing Weed

by Brittany Houlihan

Its probably no surprise that rapper Snoop Dogg (Lion, whatever) wants to legalize marijuana.  But he along with over 600 hundred other celebrities and politicians have joined together on the new website Marijuana Majority with the common goal of legalizing weed.

The website focuses on three important poll results showing Americans agree with the celebrities:

  • Post/ABC found 81% support for allowing medical marijuana
  • Time/CNN found 72% support for replacing jail time with a fine for people caught with small amounts of marijuana
  • Gallup found 50% support for legalizing marijuana altogether.

One of the best and most popular arguments on the site comes from filmmaker and author Michael Moore. “Yes [I support decriminalizing marijuana]. Our drug laws are hypocritical…and often racist. These laws have locked up an obscene number of people and this must end. And marijuana laws are the dumbest.”

Another important argument comes from someone I never thought I would agree with: Pat Robertson, Founder of the Christian Broadcast Network.  “I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol. I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.”

The website is getting a large amount of support in a very short amount of time.  Check it out.  If it’s something that you’re interested in supporting, there’s even a way to contribute. You can also check out their Facebook page.
