When I attended the inaugural session of Willie Mae Ladies Rock Camp back in 2006, the experience literally changed my life. Over the course of three days, I played the drums for the very first time, collaborated on my first song, performed for a live audience, and formed an all-girl band that went on to record and play the N.Y.C. club circuit for the next three years.
In the time since then, hundreds of other women have had similar experiences. And now the rad folks at Willie Mae are offering their alums, and any other female musicians with a couple years of experience who want to take their playing to the next level, the chance to make even more noise.
Ladies Rock Camp 2.0 is a one-of-a-kind, intensive, three-day music and mentoring program for adult women with previous musical experience. Sponsored by Funkadelic Studios, Ladies Rock Camp 2.0 includes small group lessons in drums, bass, guitar and vocals. There will be workshops on everything from songwriting to booking a tour, and attendees get the chance to write, rehearse, and perform at legendary N.Y.C. club Arlene’s Grocery with their brand new bands!
