Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj Battle Wages On With Lil’ Kim’s “Black Friday” Mixtape

by Intern Julie

I love a good dis battles. It’s a spectacle of both ribaldry and talent that is sweeter than the normal tabloid infused Pitt-Jole-Aniston love triangle, because the participants of the rivalry actually partake in the dissin’ and the audience gets to cheer and boo from the internet sidelines. Plus, we get to invest in a love or hate fan relationship that, if lucky, can last us a life time. I still draw lines when it comes to MC Lyte and Antoinette , and that battle happened when I was a wee three-year old.

Lil’ Kim’s been talking smack about Minaj for awhile now; claiming that Minaj has ripped off her style and the disciple should show her proper respects or hightail it out of rap lands. Kim’s new mixtape, Black Friday, features the rapper in a black bustier reigning over a decapitated Minaj; her pink wig sitting in a puddle of blood. The mixtape’s title track features a swaggering Kim threatening to pistolwhip Minaj, telling her sister-in-rap to go stick her head in a tornado, and that her and Didddy are a “sorry bunch of swagga jackers / I mothered you ho’s, I should claim you on my income taxes!”

I feel you Lil’ Kim, but don’t you think this is all getting a little too “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” If Minaj ends up in a wheelchair getting served dead pet bird for dinner, we will all know exactly who to call.

Unfortunately for Lil’ Kim, the entertainment industry has spoken and Nicki Minaj has been racking up both accolades (a growing list of MTV, BET and Grammy nominations and awards) and sales (Pink Friday sales recorded the highest first week for a female artist), and a seriously devoted fan-base.  It will be tough for Kim to convince the new generation of Minaj twitter-flamers and followers to get on her side of the court, but maybe some old-schoolers will pay homage and groove to the video below. Me? I’m still stuck in the 1984 Roxanne Wars, where my money is firmly for Roxanne Shante.
