Jazz Domino Holly: Daughter of a Punk Rock Legend and a Queen of Crafts!

by Casey Krosser

Get ready for the woman with coolest name ever: Jazz Domino Holly! It gets better though; Holly is an empowered crafter who’s launched a new book called Queen of Crafts. Not to mention she’s also the daughter of punk rock legend Joe Strummer of the Clash. Her new book covers everything from knitting and quilting to baking and preserving, and she insists that all of her crafts are quick, “faddy,” and affordable. Holly, the 27-year-old wonder, says she was always encouraged to be creative. In the introduction to her book, Holly explains, “With a punk rocker for a dad, the last thing people expect you to do is take up knitting needles and start your own chapter of the Women’s Institute.” However, what many don’t realize is that crafting can be made in the same spirit as punk rock music. Her crafts are always rebellious, unique, and fun.

Holly has cultivated her creativity energies her entire life as she describes, in an interview with the Telegraph, how her father, “didn’t like us watching television when we were growing up so I was stimulated to do other things. He always encouraged creativity. We were even allowed to scribble on the walls.” Now with her new book, she’s sharing her passion for crafting with the world. Holly’s an enthusiastic promoter of the DIY craft movement in the U.K., just like BUST’s Debbie Stoller has been since 1999 with her NY “Stich ‘n Bitch” knitting group. Which, by the way, gets a mention in the Telegraph article!

In the intro to her book Queen of Crafts, Holly says, “Crafting is the perfect antidote to cookie-cutter mass-production, and gives us a means of expressing not only our individuality but also our originality in a handmade rebellion against passive consumption.” Here at BUST, we couldn’t agree more.
