J. Crew Introduces a New Clothing Size

by Lex Ellenthal

J. Crew is right up there with Vineyard Vines at the list of the preppiest clothing stores where the skinniest, most photo-ready-looking people shop. However, given the quality and price tag of the J. Crew brand, I never would have thought they’d introduce clothing that mothers and elementary school age children can share. However, that seems to be just what they’ve done by creating a size 000, which is basically a triple extra small. Because if there are triple extra large people in the world, why not triple extra small?

Well, one reason would be that adult women of that size are incredibly uncommon. Another would be that this feeds into the negative culture of body-shaming we have constructed and the idealized perception of skinniness. Sure, J. Crew, it’s totally attractive and all the rage for adult women to have the same physiques as their 7 year old children.

A spokesperson from J. Crew claimed that they need to make smaller clothes to fit people in Asia. Okay?

Destroy the idea that it’s best to be underweight or child-sized. Rock on at whatever size suits you.
