Hunx and His Punx’s Seth Bogart Starts Wacky Ass Label, We’re Obsessed

by Tess Duncan

If you’ve never listened to Hunx and His Punx you should probably get on that, like yesterday. Seth Bogart (Hunx himself) writes killer rock ‘n’ roll songs with the talented Shannon Shaw (of Shannon and the Clams) who wails her heart out like you wouldn’t believe until you hear it IRL for yourself. Bogart likes to call it “hairdresser pop,” or maybe “punk-pop” (not to be confused with pop-punk), and lately you might call it “street punk.” (Mostly because their brand spankin’ new album.)

Street Punk comes out today, so while you’re getting your hands on that (it’s a good one, I promise) you should nab a tee from Seth’s own fashion and music label Wacky Wacko.

These shirts are seriously the shit. Some feature Seth’s drawings of famous ladies and dudes, from pop icons to historical greats. (There’s Liberace, Courtney Love, RuPaul, Britney Spears, Dracula, Grace Jones, and Divine, just to name a few.) Then there’s the Peggy Noland tee, which combines famous logos and brands with all your favorite (or not so favorite) musicians. Is that the Burger King logo? But wait, it says Bikini Kill? Hell yeah. My personal favorite is Huggy Bear reimagined into the Harry Potter font. But I also love Ciara as Crass! This is too hard/good. Either way this shirt will get you a lot of double-takes, compliments, and stares. (Take it from a certain writer who dropped mad dollas on this one as a birthday present to herself. Oops.)

You can also grab some sweet tunez from Wacky Wacko. (Recommended: the Grass Widow/Shannon and the Clams split from Seth’s online show “Hollywood Nailz.”) As you might expect from Hunx, you can get ridiculous trinkets like your own Hairdresser Blues comb or a leather daddy pants keychain. Most importantly, they sell the super amazing Let’s Start A Pussy Riot book. Published by Rough Trade, it features words from the likes of Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon, Vaginal Davis, Hannah Lew (Grass Widow), Robyn, and Bogart himself.
