David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is one of the most anticipated films of the year; beyond the murder-heavy, not-exactly-popcorn-material plot (said to remain very faithful to Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel), a lot of the hype is due to The Girl herself. After months of speculation over who would play asocial hacker Lisbeth Salander, the first photos of a black-haired, pierced, fully-transformed and hauntingly strange-beautiful Rooney Mara appeared– and it was clear that Salander had some serious icon potential.

Stylist Trish Summerville told W Magazine she was looked at “old punk photographs” and used a dark, muted color palette (like the almost-grey-scale urban environment of the film) when creating Salander’s signature style. Summerville says Salander’s clothes are meant to look lived-in, that “her jackets serve as armor to shield her from the world.” And on December 14th, one week before The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘s December 21 release, Summerville will be releasing a line inspired by the film at H&M stores worldwide and online.

I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style.
I’m definitely digging the punk-but-practical aesthetic of the line. Here are a few of my favorite pieces:
The shoulder detail on this leather jacket (also available in black) gives the girl-gang staple a futuristic cyber-hacker edge.
I’m a sucker for a denim vest, worn over everything from dresses to slouchy sweatshirts (see below).
This hoodie looks cozy enough to snuggle in, but the side panels and thumb holes give it decidedly un-cuddly cool ‘tude.
This henley is perfect for a Swedish winter.
The film’s ominous tagline (“What is hidden in snow comes forth in the thaw”) on a tank that may let your sideboob come forth, too.
I’m due for a new pair of “ass-kickin’ pants,” and these. are. awesome.
CARGO PANTS? Cargo pants! But if anyone can make them cool again, it’s Trish Summerville.
Are those not the coolest sweatpants you’ve ever seen? I would totally wear them to the supermarket to buy pints of Ben & Jerry’s to eat while I hack into government databases.
