Heels on Wheels Roadshow Does MidWest Tour!

by Intern Julie

The second annual Heels on Wheels Roadshow kicks off this April in Pittsburg. The show features six amazing multi-media performance artists from the femme-side of the gender spectrum highlighting gender injustice, story telling, and community building. The show is co-produced by Damien Luxe, a Brooklyn-based queer performance artist who recently got herself an MFA in DIY (or, a DIY MFA), and Heather Acs, a New York City Teaching Artist and theater performer.

The show includes “Medusa-themed puppet theatre, anti-capitalist robots, liberation magic, riot grrl dance parties, and the story of stardust are part of this journey, along with the art of creating the worlds we want to live in.”

The performers are from a variety of different disciplines and backgrounds, including “ folks who are working class, poor, professional, and sex workers; folks with graduate-level education and people who are self-taught; mestiza, immigrants, border-crossers and white folks; survivors, organizers, and educators.”

Heather Acs says of the performers: “Touring with multi-disciplinary artists who work professionally in a variety of media means that we can share strategies from Theatre of the Oppressed to DIY, from ukelele chords to community forums to bring a combination of glitter, gender justice and engaged art.”

Watch their video and pitch in to help their gas-fund or go see them when they hit your town!
