Frida Kahlo’s Family Keeps “Frida Barbie” Off Mexico’s Shelves

A Mexican court ruled last Friday that the family of deceased artist Frida Kahlo owned the sole rights to Frida’s image, and that they could prohibit the sale of Mattel’s Frida Barbie in Mexico. The family had previously expressed their anger at the way Mattel had rendered Kahlo’s image, criticizing the doll’s light skin, thin body, and the absence of Frida’s famous unibrow. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Asks Hillary Clinton: Why Does Your Twitter Bio Start With “Wife”?

When interviewing Clinton at a PEN World voices lecture, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie asked the former Secretary of State about something that had been bothering her: Why does her Twitter bio begin with the word “wife”? “I have to confess that I felt just a little bit upset,” Adichie said. “And then I went and I looked at your husband’s Twitter account, and the first word was not ‘husband.’”

“When you put it like that, I’m going to change it,” Clinton said, before explaining that she wanted to achieve a balance between relationships and personal power—a balance that was recently epitomized by Sen. Tammy Duckworth casting a Senate vote with her newborn baby strapped to her chest. Adichie suggested a new bio idea for Clinton, which we very much agree with: “Should have been a damn good president.” Read more at Jezebel.
