Fabric, and beyond, at London Craftacular

by Victoria Woodcock

As well as the best in handmade shopping, Craftacular urges you to Do It Yourself. And if you’re one of the lucky first 100 through the door, you’ll get a head start: in each bountiful bag is a set of sumptuous fabric samples from Beyond Fabrics.

Brazilians Eduardo Hirschfeld and Silvana Brasil migrated to London eleven years ago, and their shop and studio in trendy Shoreditch produces unique, contemporary designs in fabric, stationary and home furnishings. The studio also puts on sewing classes and workshops, such as the “1950s apron workshop,” and the beginner’s “Sewing machine for terrified people.” Their fabrics are varied and colourful, from vintage “Retro Rocket Rascals”, featuring 50s-style spaceships, to heavy upholstery fabric; the collections spans from kitschy and fun, to practical and plain.
