Doll Yourself Up for This Weekend’s Black Tie Beach!

by Intern Lauren

From the folks behind the notorious No Pants Subway Ride comes a summer-themed prank. Be prepared to swim, play Frisbee, soak up some rays, sunbathe, slather on sunscreen, catch up on summer reading, or all of the above. The only difference between this Improv Everywhere event and a normal beach day? You’ll be doing it all decked out in black tie apparel—it’s the third annual Black Tie Beach mission!

Black Tie Beach is a mass prank that leaves unknowing beach-goers completely dumbfounded. The organization behind the prank says that if anybody, you know, happens to ask why you chose to show up to the beach decked out in black tie apparel, you should respond matter-of-factly with something along the lines of “I felt like dressing up today” or, even better, “I enjoy dressing up at the beach.” Don’t stress over finding the perfect dress, either–Improv Everywhere recommends hitting up the thrift store for some cheap duds that won’t leave you upset if they get ruined. If you’re not sold on joining in on the fun yet, check out this video (and the priceless reactions from the not so in-the-know witnesses) from last year’s Black Tie Beach at Coney Island:

The exact location for this year’s Black Tie Beach will be announced on the Facebook event page tomorrow at noon, and the actual event will go down this Saturday. For those of you who can’t trek it to New York, check Improv Everywhere’s website to see a list of other participating locations and nitty-gritty details.
