Black Moon NYC Opens: Wicked Art by Female Artists

by Audrey Cerchiara

Black Moon New York,” opening this Friday at Sloan Fine Art’s site/109, celebrates the fabulously freaky artwork of four female artist friends. Marion Peck, Camille Rose Garcia, Elizabeth McGrath, and Jessicka Addams. The group collaborated with gallerist Alix Sloan last year in Los Angeles with a two-day exhibition, “Black Moon,” that was inspired by their successful and satisfying careers and their rich relationships with each other.

Now they are bringing their sisterhood of the traveling paintbrush to the east coast. For the new exhibition, open through November 2, each artist has created a separate, but complementary body of work that focuses on the chilly, supernatural autumnal air.

The pieces take cues from the usual witchy vibes of fall, but fold in a lot of unexpected cats, doll eyes, and rainbows, combining the potential evilness of the season into a powerful camaraderie from the painting of one artist to the sculpture of another.

If you’re local, don’t miss your chance to schmooze with the artists at the reception this Friday; if you’re not in the New York area, peruse the art below with some candy corn in hand.
