Benefit Concert to Support Camp for Aspiring Female Musicians TONIGHT in Brooklyn

by Intern Kelsie

Permanent Wave, we love you. The Brooklyn-based network of feminist artists and activists is on-point again, this time throwing a benefit show for the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. The show, which features bands PS XO, Mitten, Magnetic Island, and Desert Sharks, starts at 8:30 tonight.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit program that teaches young women to play instruments, while instilling them with the confidence necessary to succeed in other aspects of their life. Importantly, Willie Mae Rock Camp does not differentiate in its campers and staffers; they welcome campers who self-identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming. Creating a safe haven for everyone is the ultimate goal of Willie Mae. Teaching campers to melt faces off with their guitar solos makes their list of priorities, too.

Permanent Wave shows are always a good time, and what could be a better way to spend your Wednesday night than enjoying some music while knowing that you’re helping a future generation find their inner rock goddesses?

The all ages show is at Big Snow in Brooklyn. Cover is $7-10, and doors open at 8.
