Ann Romney “Loves” That Women Don’t Have A Choice

by Intern Kerishma

And Ann Romney continued to prove just how out of touch she is with the American public when she said at the Connecticut Republican Party’s Prescott Bush Awards Dinner, “I love the fact that there are also women out there that don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids.”

Repeat: “I love the fact that there are also women out there that don’t have a choice”

This is coming from the potential First Lady of the United States.

Mrs. Romney came under increased media scrutiny after Democrat Strategist Hilary Rosen stated that, as a stay-at-home mother of five, she had “never worked a day in her life.” The Romney camp quickly countered that with a response stating that Mrs. Romney had a choice, and she chose stay-at-home motherhood. (I’m to completely ignore her claims that it was extraordinarily difficult for her to do; while raising five children while battling illness isn’t a walk in the park, it sure is nice to have more than one house and a comfy bank account with good health insurance, and sure as hell makes it easier to do.)

My own mother made the decision to work and raise my siblings and I, and also made the choice to employ help for a few years when I was a kid. I know several women who chose to remain at home like Mrs. Romney, and then I know many women who had no choice in the matter – they had to work if they wanted to live and feed their kids. And praising an economic climate in which lower-income people are forced to balance working outside the home and inside the home is beyond condescending and out of touch.

You made your choice, Mrs. Romney. And I’m sure you’re grateful that you even had that choice. Why in the world would you be happy that other people don’t?
