The Dirty Girls were a group of teens in the '90s who supported the riot grrrl movement and feminism, but the bulk of the Internet didn’t know about them until a short documentary surfaced on YouTube in 2013. If you need a refresher check this out! Okay, so now that you are caught up, Amber Willat, the head of the pack, is no longer an awkward teen, but a “Moto Babe” badass woman! Collaborating with AGAIN APPAREL, Willat created an awesome video ... Read More
My inner 5-year-old is screaming. The Powerpuff Girls is coming back to TV in 2016! This is no joke. This is not a drill.  Yesterday, Cartoon Network confirmed that the Emmy award-winning show will be rebooted soon, bringing back one of the network’s top grossing shows of all time. This continues the trend of resurrecting many 90s classics for new audiences - Sailor Moon, Reading Rainbow, Girl Meets World, etc.    Pete Yoder of Cartoon ... Read More
Baddiewinkle’s Instagram captures all of the social media lingo, poses, trends, and hashtags so well that it sometimes seems like satire. This sassy lady promises to “steal your man” and even strives to be on the Ellen show while posting psychedelic selfies and twerking. It’s almost as thought she went through a teen girl’s Instagram and duplicated her wardrobe, poses, and captions.  Exhibit A: Baddiewinkle reppin a peace sign ... Read More
It does not surprise me that Jon Hamm sported a wispy middle part in the 90's, considering that it was the most popular haircut of the decade. However, because Hamm didn't reach the peak of his stardom until more than a decade later, as the part of debonair Don Draper on the show Mad Men, his hairdo has made viral waves after a video clip of his appearance on dating show, The Big Date, was exposed yesterday. Since Hamm is so closely associated with his ... Read More
Like a fanzine come to life, "The Punk Singer," directed by Sini Anderson, is a tender and totally absorbing documentary portrait of Kathleen Hanna—beloved riot grrrl frontwoman of the bands Bikini Kill, The Julie Ruin and Le Tigre.  The film is brimming with expertly edited archival footage and behind-the-scenes glimpses of Hanna’s private life. Viewers not only get to watch her find her voice in the feminist art-punk scene of the early ’90s, ... Read More
Earlier this year, we talked about why the Left Eye is the shit: she advocated safe sex, she burned down her abusive boyfriend’s house, and she did charity work with children in underdeveloped communities.  Long live the '90s. That’s why we’re psyched that VH1’s Mixtape Festival will be presenting TLC on stage as a trio once again. We hear that Left Eye will be appearing on stage - as a digital projection made of archival footage. ... Read More
I honestly think The Baby-Sitters Club movie is one of the greatest films of all time. You may laugh, but consider the following points: The soundtrack (which I own and listen to regularly) is brilliant. The fact that there are people out there who haven’t heard Girl (Girlfriend) kinda breaks my heart. The “villain” of the film is named Cokie Mason, which is just the right level of ridiculous to be perfect. The scene (spoiler alert, probably?) ... Read More
I've been pretty obsessed with '90s fashion lately; and so, I decided to go straight to the source for some inspiration. The TV shows and movies from my childhood and tween years are a treasure trove of rad lady characters with killer style, and even though I definitely didn't think I'd be revisiting shows I used to watch on Nickelodeon for my current style, I've come to terms with the fact that inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places! Check out six of ... Read More
It's no secret that kids say and do the darndest things. The absolute darndest. So it should come as no surprise that hilarious, precocious, and delightfully obnoxious kids have become the subjects for countless YouTube favorites. I’ve picked some cherished, pee-your-pants videos--I hope you enjoy. Anna Graceman, the talented 11-year-old from this season of America’s Got Talent, isn't the only member of the Graceman family who's starting her celebrity ... Read More
I've seen these photos pop up on tumblr every so often and after catching a glimpse of her at Fashion Week looking so prim and proper, I'm sort of nostalgic for this version of her. I believe the pictures were taken right about the time she became editor-in-chief at Vogue in 1988 and I love how completely polar opposite her style was compared to today. She seemed to follow trends in her personal style much more back then, evident by so much color and texture. She ... Read More
