Lena Dunham Chats With BFF Betty Halbreich

Lena Dunham, a lady known for her touching comedy and on-screen lack of clothing, is penning a new comedy based on a woman who dresses people for a living. Betty Halbreich, Bergdorf Goodman’s personal shopper, is 85 years old and has been working with the most applauded fashionistas for decades. The women joined one another in a panel at the New Yorker Festival last Sunday, and their chemistry is undeniable. They joke about everything from girdles to jeans (Halbreich finds them uncomfortable, and Dunham suggests jeggings).

Although she has worked with the most elite of New York’s fashion industry, Halbreich lacks pretension, and seems quite authentic and hilarious. She cares about her work; as Dunham puts it, "There's a pragmatic principle behind the way Betty dresses people. It's very inclusive. There's room for everyone in her process." A woman provides personal insights and fashion advice without any exclusionary inclinations? How refreshing! We can't wait for the show, Lena and Betty.
