Jezebel has a list up of their Top 20 Feminist TV Characters . It includes Liz Lemon, Lisa Simpson, Murphy Brown, Marcy D'Arcy (from Married with Children) and Rory Gilmore, among others.
What do you think? Is it a good list? Is it a complete list? Who would you add or remove from it? I don't watch a ton of TV, but I was surprised that they didn't include anyone from Buffy. And what about Daria?
Also, is there a difference between ''feminist character'' and ''strong female character?'' I'm not 100% sure where to draw the line on that one. Of the shows that I do watch, I see a lot of strong woman characters, but I wouldn't call them all feminist - and I can't quite put my finger on why. Is it because Catherine Willows (CSI) can lead the entire crime lab but still conducts investigations with her boobs half out? I don't know (and who says you have to be un-sexy to be a feminist, anyway?). What do you guys think? -Liza
