These makeovers have me convinced that I should ditch Brooklyn and head for the woods, airstream in tow. No? Bad idea? Fine.    I love this one; they kept the rustic, camp-y feel minus the spiders and dirt.    I'm pretty sure this airstream has more counter space than my apartment does. I'm not bitter. (Yes I am.)    Am I allowed to choose favorites? I think this one wins. Anything with a bed and wifi wins in my mind, though.    Images via Design Sponge, Country Living, Apartment Therapy, Anchored Home Blog Read More On Bust. Read More
When fiercely talented vocal powerhouse Amy Winehouse died in 2011 of alcohol poisoning, she joined the exclusive “27 club.” This tragic pantheon of rock royalty who crashed and burned at only 27 years old includes Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain. But while substance abuse loomed large in all these lives cut short, in Winehouse’s case, there was an extra element that contributed perhaps more than any other—over a decade of anorexia and bulimia. In a huge win for world health, Cuba has become the first country ever to receive validation from the World Health Organization for ending mother-to-child HIV and syphilis transmissions. An estimated 1.4 million women with HIV and 1 million women with syphilis give birth every year. Children born from a mother with HIV have 15-45% chance of being infected with the virus. Syphilis can cause death in fetuses or leave children with horrible neonatal infections. Cuba has been working for many years to end the mother-to-child transmission of these infections. Read More

In Rihanna’s new video for the banger “Bitch Better Have My Money,” an accountant’s blond wife is kidnapped, tortured, and taken on a yacht party by Rihanna and her super glam crew. (The accountant—or the “bitch”—is said to be based on Rihanna’s own ex-accountant, one who she fired after a series of his financial screw-ups in 2012.) There’s a lot going on in the video, which is gorgeously opulent and more than a little disturbing, and it’s generated a lot of conversation (as I assume was RiRi’s intention). Read More
We wrote about the recent passage of a law banning female genital mutilation in Nigeria on Monday, and that isn’t the only feminist news coming out of the African country this week. An all-women’s book club in Nigeria spawned the hashtag #BeingFemaleInNigeria to discuss their experiences of prejudice, sexism, and the unrealistic expectations placed upon them. “The hashtag emerged from a book club based in the capital of Abuja, fronted by young Nigerian woman, Florence Warmate,” Ade Onibada reported for The Voice.   “There’s only me. I am the law,” Buffy says to her friends in one of the final episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is what I wanted: To be singular, and singularly powerful. My sophomore year of high school, I could never concentrate in class because I was constantly thinking about two things: my after-school snack and watching an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The former was always a piece of toast or a bowl of cereal, and I fantasized about it for basically the entire second half of the school day. Read More
