I caught a glimpse of Jessica Chastain for the first time in The Tree of Life and immediately wanted more. By the time The Help rolled around the secret was out—Hollywood had found its fair skinned beauty. Now, like so many A-list movie stars recently (Paul Rudd, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, oh my!), Chastain is heading to Broadway.  According to the New York Times, the Juilliard grad decided to study acting more seriously after she played the female lead in Romeo and Juliet. Now, after several big screen successes, she is coming full circle and returning to her stage roots.

With Dan Stevens, looking classy and ready for the stage!

Chastain will play Catherine Sloper in the revival of the Tony award winning play, The Heiress, alongside Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), and Judith Ivey (Hurlyburly). The play takes place in late 19th century Washington Square and tells the story of Catherine and her suitor, whose motivations for marrying the rich woman are unclear.

Luckily for Chastain, she didn’t have to down cartons of melted soy ice cream to prepare for the role, which according to an article on Eonline.com, is how she curved up for The Help. She also doesn’t have to wear a wig like she did for Guillermo del Toro’s Mama either. Instead, Chastain prepared for her role by learning all about the intricacies of the Victorian lifestyle. Check out a video interview with Chastain on her new role here. Previews begin October 6th and the show opens on November 1st at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
