Best Spot to Rub Elbows with Sorta-Cool Rockers From San Francisco Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay 2002

Without doubt a welcome addition to the music scene (Friday night's BudgetRock garage music for a measly $3 and Sunday's free Oyster BBQ shows being the buzz draw), the Parkside is also quietly gaining a rep as a place where the rock and roll elite meet to get bombed. Visiting dignitaries such as Ryan Adams, the Hives, the Donnas, the Dirtbombs, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion have all been spotted sipping a drink or six on the roomy outdoor patio, while the Soledad Brothers, the Greenhornes, and the Forty-Fives grace the cozy room with a secret set whenever they roll through town. Maybe it's the hospitality and strong pouring hand of the owners that make Big Deals feel welcome, but it's most likely the unpretentious atmosphere that comes with the joint's happy, integrated mix of rockers, bikers, blue-collar joes, and neighborhood couples that wins most folks over. Once the sun goes down, they yank the tables, ice the Pabst, and turn the restaurant into an instant bash for anyone willing to participate. Op
