Don't lie – "Rebel Girl"was an important part of the soundtrack at your angriest teenage sleepover. Le Tigre helped initiate that tenacious (and in retrospect, highly dubious) clubbing phase. And now, some twentysomething years down the road, you're digging The Julie Ruin. You've gotten older, sure – but has Kathleen Hanna?
I don't think so! In addition to retaining her particular knack re: wearing-the-hell-out-of-a-printed-shift, Ms. Hanna's latest punk rock endeavor, The Julie Ruin, continues to churn out the hits. The band's new single ("Goodnight, Goodbye") lands this week. You can find the video below, filmed in a sepia Super 8. (As if you needed more proof that the lingering empress of Riot Grrrl is a time traveler.) The band has also released tour dates:
04-01 Easthampton, MA - Flywheel # 04-03 Cambridge, MA - The Sinclair # 04-04 Montreal, Quebec - Il Motore # 04-05 Toronto, Ontario - Virgin Mobile Mod Club # 04-07 Cleveland, OH - Beachland Ballroom 04-08 Ferndale, MI - The Loving Touch # 04-09 Chicago, IL - Lincoln Hall 04-11 Millvale, PA - Mr. Smalls Theatre # 04-12 Asbury Park, NJ - Asbury Lanes # 05-17 Hamburg, Germany - Kampnagel - KMH 05-18 Berlin, Germany - Bi Nuu 05-20 Brussels, Belgium - Les Nuits de Botanique 05-22 London, England - Tufnell Park Dome 05-24 Leeds, England - Brudenell Social Club 05-26 Brighton, England - Coalition 05-27 Paris, France - La Flèche D'Or 05-30 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Sound Festival 2014
And as for Ms. Hanna's delicious wail, tempered with a near-saccharine sweetness? The shoutalong choruses that went so well with midnight drives in your borrowed Avalon? All that's intact, too. So...may she live forever.
