Let January 31, 2012 be known as the day that it happened: the day that Born to Die (out now on Interscope) finally dropped. After months of furious Internet opining, illegal downloads of leaked tracks, tons of grainy live footage, and one questionable Saturday Night Live performance, we now have an entire record of moody, lilting pop songs with which to rightfully judge Lana Del Rey. So what is the verdict?  It is—wait for it—not that bad. Some ... Read More
Okay, so I know that isn't technically a brand-new track (it's been out for a couple of weeks), but Santigold's new song "Big Mouth" is making me all kinds of curious about her forthcoming 2012 album. Santi White, aka Santigold, revealed that the highly-anticipated follow-up to her 2008 debut will be called Master of My Make-Believe; the Brooklyn-based artist told V Magazine, "I want it to be about creating your own reality." If Santigold's reality is anything ... Read More
Remember your do-or-die New Year’s resolution to ditch your soul sucking dead-end job? It’s now February and you’re still selling out -- spending all your after-work hours sobbing bitterly into pints of Guinness (or salted-caramel ice cream). Craftcation Indie Business & DIY Conference on March 22-25, 2012 in Ventura, California is coming to the rescue! This three-day indie business conference, sponsored by BUST Magazine, focuses on starting ... Read More
As a kid, I never really understood the appeal of paper dolls. I needed a toy that could survive my rough and tumble antics at playtime, and the wispy slips of people-paper just couldn't keep up. In my tiny yet destructive hands, paper dolls easily (and often) became confetti. Since I've grown up (I guess... I'm taller now, at least) I've mellowed out a little and have taken to watching online TV as an alternative to destroying my belongings. My newest Netflix ... Read More
VICE Magazine calls itself "The Definitive Guide to Enlightening Information." It didn’t surprise me, then, to hear that instead of covering the traditional corners of the fashion world (think Paris or London) VICE was devoting its Fashion Week coverage to the unseen fashion shows that normally don’t pop up on our global radar. The web series Fashion Week Internationale takes a look at the unconventional approaches to fashion in places like ... Read More

I love AbFab in a "naming-my-future-daughter-Saffron" kind of way. The British sitcom about two fashion-obsessed middle-aged career women is freakin' hilarious and perfectly acted by Jennifer Saunder (Edina)---who also created the show--- and Joanna Lumley (Patsy). So it was absolutely awesome to see that, in honor of their return to TV this year, the fabulous and funny champagne-guzzling, fashion-worshipping Brits are making a splash as the cover girls for ... Confession: I'm totally obsessed with Rooney Mara's red carpet style. Sure, I saw that Dragon Tattoo movie and it was good in that long, super intense kind of way, but what I'm really digging at the moment is all the sartorial press and red carpet appearances by Mara, who basically kills it every time. She somehow makes pretty and edgy work together flawlessly.  NY Mag compared her to Audrey Hepburn and while many young, talented, dark haired actresses garner ... Read More
Leave it to The Gray Lady to publish a story about a very current case involving New York cheerleaders that uses archaic, offensive, and misogynistic language.  The cheerleaders' woes began some three months ago when a group of girls from a high school outside Buffalo, NY, began to exhibit uncontrollable tics. Last week it was widely reported that the cause was "conversion disorder." The Today Show also flashed around the words "mass hysteria," but the doctor ... Read More
Ugh, all the shop windows are reminding me that Valentine's day is coming up soon. It's the stupidest holiday ever except for the fact that it provides the perfect excuse to order a heart-shaped pizza for one and buy yourself a present. Ever since I stumbled upon this lil gem on tumblr, I've been hellbent on getting one of my own.   This would look perfect hung right above my bed to let everyone who enters my room know what exactly is up. I'm also really ... Read More
