If the Dowager Countess and I were frenemies in real life, she would probably ask me, "What's an Inter-net?" and to that, I would reply, "It is a place where this happens, THANK GOODNESS."  Downton Abbeyonce is where your Downton Abbey addiction and your Beyonce obsession meet. Brilliant. Downton ... Read More
It's no secret that kids say and do the darndest things. The absolute darndest. So it should come as no surprise that hilarious, precocious, and delightfully obnoxious kids have become the subjects for countless YouTube favorites. I’ve picked some cherished, pee-your-pants videos--I hope you enjoy. Anna Graceman, the talented 11-year-old from this season of America’s Got Talent, isn't the only member of the Graceman family who's starting her celebrity ... Read More
I know Toddlers & Tiaras is messed up. I know! It goes against so many of my core beliefs as a feminist. I shouldn't feed into a society that gussies up children in layers and layers of makeup, spray tans, and false teeth. Not to mention the problematic revealing costumes and way-too-mature dance routines. But every once in a while, I have to watch, because hot damn those kids say the darndest things about pizza and cats. And I don't care what anybody says: ... Read More
Last night, the BUST staffers had a Ladies Night Out at the premiere party for Portlandia’s season 2. We have huge TV crushes on the IFC hit, and the second season way exceeded our expectations. The two new eps we watched at the party were packed with delightfully insane jokes, new characters (FYI, “We can pickle that!” is the new “Put a bird on it!”), and old pals like the aggressive bike messenger and feminist-bookstore owners. The blowout was held at ... Read More
Helen Mirren has thrown her hat in the ring to become the twelfth Time Lord in the Doctor Who series, and I would really love to see this happen. I started watching Doctor Who this year, and its Buffyesque “Big Bad of the Week” formula sucked me in almost immediately. So far I’ve only seen the 10th and 11th Doctors’ seasons, and both David Tennant and Matt Smith were fantastic. But who’s to say that when the Time Lord regenerates into ... Read More
“Shit Girls Say,” a short comedy vid by Kyle Humphrey & Graydon Sheppard, is a little ridiculous, mildly insulting, completely hilarious, and terrifyingly accurate. The montage of--you guessed it--"shit girls say," includes things we *may* or may not have uttered within the last month ("What's wrong with my computer?" and "Twinsies!" come to mind). Cringe if you want, but how many times have you wondered aloud if you unplugged the hair straightener ... Read More
Barnard College’s Athena Center for Leadership Studies is celebrating women in film, both behind and in front of the camera. Paying tribute to female directors, writers, and producers (as well as the female characters they help create), the second annual Athena Film Festival is “A Celebration of Women and Leadership.” The festival, running from February 9-12 at Barnard’s campus, focuses on diversity in both the real world and the film ... Our beloved Patsy and Edina are back with a new episode of Absolutely Fabulous to air on BBC America on January 8th! We've been hearing of the reunion for quite some time and are THRILLED  with the news. Since originally airing 20 years ago (really? has it been that long?) Ab Fab, the brilliant British sitcom created by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French, has yet to have  been knocked off its pedestal of comedic genius. Not since maybe Lucy and Ethel were ... Read More
Kyrgyzstan is a small landlocked country bordering China where traditions run deep. Vice News presents one of this country’s oldest and most disturbing traditions in "Bride Kidnapping In Kyrgyzstan." Thomas Morton introduces this ancient custom, which has had a resurgence since the fall of Communism. Although the practice is technically illegal, almost half the rural marriages in Kyrgyzstan are a result of bride kidnapping. For their film, Vice traveled to ... Read More
Fred Armisen of SNL (and virtually every indie comedy film or TV show of the last 10 years) will be doing NYC in-store appearances on December 4th and 5th to promote the release of Portlandia: Season One on DVD and Blu-Ray. The stellar IFC comedy series, which stars Fred and Sleater Kinney's Carrie Brownstein, will be out in stores on December 6. We're obsessed with Portlandia (which lovingly skewers Portland, Oregon) and its recurring characters, like the ... Read More
