A few months ago, a mysterious email was sent out from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs  inviting fans to a free and hush-hush performance at the Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. There were two performances, each with a capacity of just 100 people and the second show being exclusive to just the ladies-- no vagina, no show. That night, they came, they passed out Zorro masks, and they fucken rocked. Like me, you have no excuse to not have been there. But lucky for us, both shows...

I've lost my marbles for Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears!!! This past weekend, I had the distinct pleasure of getting shot with a beautiful dose of cinematic glam rock when I was introduced to the sound of Brooklyn based band, Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears. Led by Brian Scary, the band's sound is reminiscent of Queen, The Beatles and Bowie, and also super theatrical like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Each member was dressed like a character from an old horror film, and...

I've always loved Melora and her cello band Rasputina, but this latest cd Oh Perilous World is probably one of her best. Here she's teamed up with that other 1800's lovin' gal -the one and only Dame Darcy for the video for 1816, The Year Without a Summer. You can also check out the very fine tune Cage in a Cave on our Media Taster to the left. Enjoy the old timey splendour.  ...

There has been a whole slew of fun dance/rock/disco bands coming out in the last few years, like Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Justice and Simian Mobile Disco, but my current fave of the bunch is 23 year old Calvin Harris from the UK. His mix of juicy slabs of funk and goofy falsetto lyrics on his new release, I Created Disco, (out here in Sept.) is simply irresistable. And in an absolutele genius marketing/promotional move, he's asked his UK fans to stage simultaneuos house parties...

Okay, so, yeah, I'm totes obsessed with Flight of the Conchords , and always enjoy the songs in their episodes-- those funny, pitch-perfect takeoffs on various music genres. But last night's song-- a mock '60s French pop number, whose lyrics consisted of only those French words that someone who'd studied it in high school would be likely to remember--is so good, I'd gladly listen to it even if it weren't funny. Oh, and the cute  video, complete with bicycles, umbrellas, and a picnic -- c'est...

No! The sweat, and the heat, and gnarly funk of hipster B.O., and the epic 45 minute train ride that goes on forever, and the ridiculous mass of people did not keep me away! I went and I saw and I was blown away. First, hot dog in hand, my socks were officially knocked off by Noisettes' front-woman Shingai Shoniwa who rocked so hard the stage was shaking and who's stage presence and overall aura is not one to be missed. Check out page 92...

It's no surprise that BUST readers know how to get down. Last night's issue release party at Union Pool in Brooklyn was a smashing success full of fresh beats, sick jams, and lots o' BUSTy love. Today at HQ, we relied on a few key elements to get us through the day: too-good-to-be-true mac n cheese and Iggy Pop on repeat. Dawn will be blogging all about the party tomorrow but until then, feast your eyes and ears on this awesome snippet of gospel singer...

BUST's "Pop Tart" columnist Wendy McClure came through N.Y.C. last weekend on a visit from her sweet home Chicago, so I made sure to grab a pineapple full of liquid sunshine with her at one of my fave bars, Trailer Park. As one of the few people on earth I will concede knows more about pop culture than I, Wendy in person didn't disappoint, and in fact dazzled me with this little gem of ephemera she picked up on her visit to the Museum of...
