10 Lady Podcasts You Should Be Listening To Right Now

Women-hosted podcasts may be few and far between, but the lady shows that are out there are fabulous and well worth the listen. With so many women working in audio, it’s only a matter of time before more strike out in this indie-radio field—it happens to be the perfect platform for young female voices. Here’s a list of podcasts that any “feminista,” foodie, and long-distance friend can relate to.

Call Your Girlfriend - You can’t not fall in love when Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow speak candidly about social issues, personal issues, their periods, and their poop. This long distance friendship - turned podcast reminds us of the importance of sisterhood, and all the ridiculous (and super important) conversations that come along the way. From feminism to fashion, their completely relevant ranting leaves us feeling warm, fuzzy, and inspired.

Black Girls Talking - Alesia, Fatima, Aurelia, and Ramou are four black women with so many things to say, and we are lucky to be able to listen. From pop-culture to body oil, these ladies bring collective wisdom to every corner of modern life, and do so by embracing the power in numbers. We could listen to their voices all day, and thanks to Soundcloud, so can you.

Chewing The Fat - Since when do we not love everything having to do with food? Well, Louisa Chu and Monica Eng talk food best, getting into food culture as well as cooking and dining. Even if you haven’t turned on your stove since you don’t remember when, you’ll enjoy what these ladies have to say.

Throwing Shade - Self  proclaimed “Homosensual” Brian Safi and “Feminasty” Erin Gibson (our girl crush) bicker like two old broads and have the attention span of puppies, and we love them for it. Discussing everything you wouldn’t discuss at a dinner party (politics, abortions, animal testing) peppered with stories about yoga classes and whole foods. There isn’t a dull moment with these two, and if you haven’t had the pleasure, feel free to go binge-listen... Seriously, right now.

Slumber Party with Alie and Georgia - Remember the days you would invite a friend over, build a fort, eat too many snacks, and talk about nothing and everything until you fall asleep? Well, this podcast is something like that. They tell ghost stories, play games, and interview comedians, musicians, actors, you name it. Put on your pjs, climb in your fort, and give these ladies a spin.

Another Round - Buzzfeed's new podcast is everything we had hoped it would be, and more. Heben Nigatu and Tracy Clayton tackle race relations and gender equality, drinks in hand, so of course bad jokes and debates between popcorn and squirrels are to be expected. Who knew listening to other people getting drunk could be this fun and important.

Death Sex and Money - This WNYC podcast with Anna Sale talks about everything most important to humans - each episode a vignette featuring one of the many faces of death, sex, and money. From cheating to the NFL to the life of a funeral director, this podcast gives us chills in all the best ways.

Nerdette - It’s about time ladies proudly nerd out over the airwaves, and Greta Johnsen and Tricia Bobeda are doing it right. Female voices are too rarely heard discussing books, science, history, and technology on a public platform, and it is a beautiful thing. This podcast is not for background listening though, as they do assign homework for listeners - all in good fun of course!

The Back Talk - Brit Julious is singlehandedly bringing the voices of women of color to the mic, and all we can say is, Bravo. This beastly creator, writer, editor and director reads essays and hosts conversations that illuminate the colored female artists that are too easily made invisible. Backtalk is poetry on the radio, and we are obsessed.
