Support Feminist Media! During these troubling political times, independent feminist media is more vital than ever. If our bold, uncensored reporting on women’s issues is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $25, $50, or whatever you can afford, to protect and sustain BUST.com. Thanks so much—we can’t spell BUST without U.

In the past decade, we have seen many of our favorite childhood superheroes come to life on the big screen: the victorious Superman, the conflicted Batman, the unpredictable Hulk, the suave Iron Man. So where are the women? Sure, Black Widow made an appearance in The Avengers and Catwoman (my personal favorite) showed up to save the Dark Knight, but most films are uncomfortably lacking in women characters with fully explored, complex identities. Well, all that might change in the upcoming Superman vs. Batman film, starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, respectively.

The powerful and empathetic Wonder Woman is coming to a theater near you! In the film, due out by July 15, 2015, our favorite Amazonian will be portrayed by Fast and Furious 6 star Gal Gadot, who hails from Israel. Director Zack Snyder could not be more thrilled; “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role,” he explains. Let’s hope we see more amazing superheroines follow suit and grace us with their inspirational presence!
