yeah, i like mgmt too. and i agree with lyrics born. great summertime groovin'.

ya'll have some kick ass taste in music.
so, I didn't get to see los camp as they were on stupidly early (who puts a headlining band on at 6.00?) but I did get to meet a couple of them and they were very nice (and so tiny!). Hopefully I'll see them over the summer.

I did get to see:
Sky Larkin
Let's Wrestle
not to suck on BUST (the mag's) musical teat, but they did strike gold with Santogold
I'm shocked that no one has mentioned She and Him! I saw them play on Conan the other night, with Yo La Tengo playing backup. My roommate has been raving about them since the first album came out recently, but I fell in love when I saw the performance. I almost feel a little sheepish talking about them-they're such the 'new', 'quintessential', indie rock band; the lead singer is Zooey Deschanel, somewhat of an 'indie' film star; they're album cover is typical, simple, 'indie' band artwork:

I've read many comments on forums that they're just another lame 'indie' rock band, which is why I want to shy away from that label, because so many people are understandably jaded when a band is categorized that way these days. The term is overused and too vague anyway. This band is special.
The music marvelous. It ranges from old school country to soul to rock. Her voice is a sort of twangy, Patsy Cline-ish style. It is SO talented-I can't stop listening!
Here's a clip of the performance on Conan. The video is a bit finicky for some reason, so ya'll might have to reload a couple of times. There was one on youtube, but it was promptly removed by NBC Universal..those fuckers mad.gif
Word on She & Him. The dismissers are just missers!

Okay, that was dumb, anyhoo....

-new Adam Green - Sixes and Sevens
-new The Raveonettes - Lust, Lust, Lust
-Crystal Castles
-new Magnetic Fields - (can't remember the title, kinda snoozers but still good)
-the Warlocks (not new but can't stop rocking out to the Surgery album)
heh-you can also say 'the dissers are just missers' : )
The Pierces (Gotta love an album called Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge)
Low vs Diamond
Love the new Robyn album
jezebel, i effing love that The Pierce's album!
ditto on crystal castles!

and also..

ps. another site to peep out good music is, just fyi wink.gif
Jonny Foreigner. Kinda like los camp, but a bit harder and more slick.
Colin Meloy's solo stuff
The Mae Shi
toxic kitty

My favorite artists/bands are:

*Kate Nash ~ Made of Bricks

*Rilo Kiley ~ everything!!!

*Ingrid Michaelson ~ Girls and Boys

*The New Pornographers ~ Challengers

* Hem ~ Funnel Cloud
retro kitten
tom waits' first album

sleater-kinney (because I am perpetually stuck between 1995-ish and 2005. That or I can't get past their breakup. Pathetic, I know. unsure.gif )

the gossip

eddie vedder - into the wild

the new nine inch nails album - the slip

and lots of random blues/jazz stuff.

Right now I'm starting to listen to more "summer" music (not sure what that means but some music just means summer)

Ben Kweller

Lollipop Shoppe

Hot Chip

Bonzo Dog Band

Meat Puppets

DJ Rekha's Basement Bhangra

1998 was the summer I met my hubby and we called it the summer of dub cuz that was what we were bumpin
I told hubby that this summer is the summer of Bhangra and he told me i need more than one cd ( I have a problem where I tend to play the same thing over and over and over and over and it drives everyone batshit crazy)

Anyone have any other good Bhangra suggestions for me?

here is what else I have been bumpin

Uncle Tupelo anthology 89-93 fuck Wilco this is the real deal. Alt country and shit.

and my love for Deep House has been rekindled by hearing There but for the grace of G-d go I by Machine
I was an honorary Luna Chick back when they toured with Rancid because some strange guy ripped my shirt (Because he was crushing my breast.) & I cleaned his clock & I gave the Lars the business for making a teen girl cry.

The Gutter Twins. Mark Lanegan & Greg Dulli take you on a dark, dirty ride on their dysfunctional, but highly sexual love train.
woke up from a dream this morning that martha wainwright had a new album sad it was just a dream, so I'm listening to everything of hers. "who was I kidding?" is on right now -- can't wait for bmfa wink.gif

Ever heard the MIDIval PunditZ or Dahler Mehndi? I also like the Asian Dub Foundation. All have strong elements of Bhangra to their music. Enjoy!! biggrin.gif
oh my god, I'm a fool. she *did* release a new album, it's just not available here yet. this is what comes of sleep deprivation...
thanks october, I will have to check that out.
I am very excited about Martha's new album. I've only listened to it a couple of times and I don't love it as much as the first one - yet - but it's pretty good. And she looks totally hot on the cover!
Tilly And The Wall's new album. I'm all about Pot Kettle Black right now.
The new Ladytron!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (aka Velocifero), so d a m n good!
I love, love, love Beck's new album...*ahem* even though it's not out until Tuesday... unsure.gif
Since I'm such a big music geek, here's some stuff I like: Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Neko Case, Jolie Holland, Sixteen Horsepower/Woven Hand, Stereolab, Laika, Broadcast, Bauhaus, Siouxsie/Creatures, Patsy Cline, Nina Simone, the Psychedelic Furs, and Echo & the Bunnymen. Haven't heard the new Ladytron yet (I'm not a downloader...rather kind of an old skool cd collectin' geek), but I hear it's fab.
I need to get the new beck for sure. kinda fell off with ladytron after their last album.. not sure why really. just stopped sticking, I guess.

I've been digesting bands on Rumraket records. Efterklang and Grizzly Bear have been in my collection for a bit, but I'm getting on to Erik Levander, Amiina. I shed tears for Scandinavian/Icelandic music.

I'd joined up with Ye-Ye land, as I love french tunes.... there is sooo much I have yet to delve into aside from the biggies--france gall, francois hardy, brigitte bardot, and the like.

Richard Hawley's been treating me well...

30's girl---I LURV me some bauhaus (not so much LovenRockets or Peter Murphy solo stuff per se), and Siouxsie Sioux. I'm a HUGe Cocteau Twins fan, too. I like a lot of 4ad including Blonde Redhead.

I used to be a MAJOR 4AD fan, to the point that 4AD music was practically all I played on my radio show in the early '90s (the other djs jokingly called me the 4ADj). Since 4AD founder Ivo left in the late '90s, I don't think the label has been the same. I don't like a lot of their new signings, and they're also signing bands who were previously on other labels, Blonde Redhead being one. They didn't start out on 4AD. Stereolab's new album is out on 4AD, too. I'll buy it because I'm such a 'Lab fan. But I'm not a big supporter of the label any more.

I also spent several years on the Cocteau Twins forum which, despite being run by a woman (who often goes on hiatus from the forum to take care of personal business and leaves it in the hands of her vice-admin, a guy), has a lot of underlying sexism and cliqueishness going on. I still love the band, though.

Danish The Savage Rose excites me. Very haunting voice.

Greek Aphrodite's Child - I love this song.

Swedish The Happy Birthdays "Three girls from Stockholm doing wonderful pop in the vein of american indiepop from the nineties and UK pop eighties style with nods to C86 and Sarah."

French Zombie-Zombie - with an incredibly cool video!

I've recently discovered Inner and their CD Lovetheonlyway but I simply can not find it when I try to illegally download it! Sigh! It's so frustrating. I've found a few places to listen to it online but I want it with me always! Humph. The thing is, I like them so much that if I don't find a solution soon I might actually-gasp!-buy their CD once I have money again. And the last CD I bought was Modest Mouse, the one with "Float On" on it, so you know it's a big deal.
I really love Sleeping States, the wistful, sad Radiohead album, and The Elected these days.

Especially, "Don't Blow It": "someone out there loves you/you know who you are"
I saw the Melvins last night. There were so fuckin good I can't even deal with it. It was super heavy metal . Possibly one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

The Melvins brought down the hammer and any band I listen to after that show, fuckin suck. they have ruined me.
Tom Hagerman is fulfilling my Amelie accordian, music box love right now.
And I'm liking the Mary Onettes, too.. for their sorta bauhaus-y, pop-goth thing going on.

Fun times with Brazilian girls new album!!! I deem this one of my next "transition with strength" albums for its ability to make my booty bounce.

gahhhh... I NEED the new radiohead. badddd.....

A few of Elin Palmer's stuff is tres nice, as well. She's a swedish/denver multi-instrumentalist singer. I dig "Postcards" and "du". Haunting and organic. I likey like.

Been coming back to Beulah, too... these days.
Crossposted with LPoH thread, Sixty Belgian women agree . . . It's a lovely version of Radiohead's "Creep".
hercules & love affair

who knew i liked disco??
I saw Hercules and love Affair live and they were awesome!

Invincible's 'Shapeshifters' is already one of my favourite releases of this year.

And i'm doing this 80's roundtrip: The Divinyls, Missing Persons, Strawberry Switchblade,Romeo Void..
Been listening to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds again lately, I have tickets to see them in Seattle in September, can't wait!
Might have to order the new CD online, can't find in this town anywhere.
OMFG, Wolfmother broke up! I am on their mailing list & I got an email today that said the basssist & drummer quit & Andrew plans to reform the group when he finds new members. I am beyond crushed.
AP - I love it! (and I'm not a radiohead fan, maybe that makes it easier)

new cds: The War On Drugs - Wagonwheel Blues and She & Him...
I like the She & Him album a lot! Thanks to humanist for putting me onto them by giving a good review in this thread.

I've been listening to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds's Murder Ballads again.
New Jack's Mannequin EP!
I've been in a dreamy mood this morning and grooving out to the new Beach House album, Devotion. Particularly this track, You Came To Me. ...*love*...

Some photos of the lovely couple...

Thank you for Beach House... I love it! I love new discoveries for me...!!!!

"Heart of Chambers" is giving me the chills!!!

"Heart of Chambers" is giving me the chills!!!

Kewl! Yay! Truthfully, I like their first album better (particularly Master of None), but the new one's growing on me. I think they've got kind of a Mazzy Star/Opal sound with a little Broadcast '60s pop and Cocteau Twins sparkle thrown in. I love her Kendra Smith-like voice, too.
beach house are wonderful!!!! it actually took me a while to get into them but they've definitely been part of my soundtrack this summer. mpl, heart of chambers gives me chills too! the way it progresses, and that spot right after "would you be my longtime baby" where her voice kind of breaks as it goes up--!!!!!!!! i also really love "tokyo witch" from their first album.
re-discovering pearl jam, ever since they've been officially relegated to the classic rock stations.
Queen Bull
im loving she and him and the pink spiders right now.

oh and i just looked up Beach House-- its love.

Right now I am loving the Delta Spirit. They're kind of a not nearly as smart or complicated version of the Walkmen. It just has a nice swing to it, yo. "Trashcan" is a dope as hell single.
i'm in love with jeremy jay. he asked me what my name was and that was enough to convince me to buy the party i own the LP and three singles dry.gif oh beer libido heart and music, you will be the downfall of my bank account.

seriously, swoon.
Beach House truly is yay. thanks!

I've been into Kid Sister, and have downloaded various songs that have been earworms for me:

Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing At All
Father MC - I'll Do 4 U
Sonny J - (Handsfree) If You Hold My Hand
The Waterboys - Sweet Thing
Talking Heads - Sax and Violins
The O'Jays - Cry Together
Mint Condition - Breaking My Heart
Connie Francis - Siboney

This may sound nerdy, but Bruce Springsteen's Human Touch is one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. It's the drive and the passion, the guitar solos, Bruce's wailing, and the desperate tenderness of it all.
