I know for sure that the smell is still there. People make it extremly apparent when they're near me. Even though it bothers me that they talk shit when i'm around them, I really don't care anymore. I KNOW that I DO take a shower every morning and may be even more clean than they are! Shit, I take a shower twice a day or more.

I got b.v. when I got pregnant. I remeber, that at the time I had yeast, Trying to rid myself of disharge, I douched daily with plain water. I think the bacteria multiplied faster with the water . Which, in turn gave me the worst case of BV anyone could ever have! My vagina smelled like SHIT or a really nasty FART! mad.gif

I said that I was gonna take a bv vacation today, but I lied. Thoughts race through my mind all day..and I can't stop it. I'm really interested in hearing womens results of the bacterias that are found in thier cultures that will be done. Some virgin girls that had reoccurring vaginosis, it was discovered that it was an infection that had spread from an upper respriratory infection from her ears that was never noticed or treated, the bacteria ended up down there somehow. Maybe a few of us could discover that it is from a simple strep throat bacteria that we never had treated. I'm really hoping that will help some of us. My son came home with strep throat 3 times this year, he is always drinking after me, and for a few days my throat would get very sore...but then go away on its on..wishful thinking I know but it couldn't hurt to check.....

This is very interesting. I had chronic strep throat when I was younger. To the point that I had to have my tonsils removed. But that doesn't keep you from getting it again. You can still get it, you just don't know what it is since you don't have tonsils to get all swollen, purple and puss ridden. Its very possible this could be the case for me. I will let you know how EVERYTHING goes after tomorrow. I wanted to take a bv vacation today too but I can't. My symptoms are only getting worse, or at least changing. My discharge is a light yellow now and my burning gets worse with heat. This is going to be a WONDERFUL summer.

That's the part about BV that I hate the most, the wondering if other people can smell it, and if they can, it's the wondering if they know it's emanating from your girly bits.

Unfortunately I know that others can smell it, and that they know exactly what it is. Because, I smelled it in another woman who was walking through a corridor and I was sitting in a student lounge. sad.gif But, obviously, having had experience with it too, I just felt bad for her. sad.gif Gah. It sucks.

I've been really, really lucky with the boric acid. I just use it after sex and right after my period and I'm odor free. I hope (knock on wood) that I continue to be lucky with it. I do tend to develop a bit of an odor right before my period, but I don't bother with the boric acid until after.

I hope you who are having more stubborn problems find something that works.

Hello, Treehugger

The smell of bv consumes me at all times as far as wondering if someone smells it. I am also using the boric acid( I am using the yeast arrest that contains boric acid) and it has been working for me too. But I know that it may or may not stop working for me so I am making sure that I have an arsenal of products that I can turn to that is why I really love this board and all the information everyone provides..

Morphia--That story you posted about the woman who had HPV and got tested for "mycoplasma" and "ureaplasma"...that's news to me. How come doctors never test for these since HPV is getting very common? I had an abnormal pap smear back in October but it only showed up as mild dysplasia and not technically HPV. I've sinced cleared the dysplasia. I've had BV for a LONG time (even when I was a virgin) so I know that my BV isn't connected to the dysplasia but I wonder why nobody has ever mentioned all of this? I'm getting increasingly more frustrated as I read all of the new posts by new members...everyone is suffering in their own hell and doctors aren't helping. Not only does this one infection RUIN any confidence a woman has about her sexuality and cleanliness...it could be doing damage to her reproductive organs. It amazes me that doctors don't take this infection more seriously. sad.gif

Here's my bv bitch for the day. It turns out I had more of an odor than I thought I did. My bf finally confessed to me last night that when I'm turned on he often gets a waft of odor. He also said that its gotten more potent since I started treating it. mad.gif So I guess I do have the smell AND the burning. Lucky fucking me. And my pelvis has REALLY been bothering me the past couple of days. I have this constant feeling of pressure and discomfort. It sucks. There. I'm done.

Sorry ladies. We had storms here last night and I lost my internet service until now. I didn't ask my doctor about the Clindamycin. I know a lot of you are worried about that...maybe someone else with an appointment soon could ask? Sorry again.

No problem, Aggravated. It was still lovely of you to offer.

So it's too bad this didn't come up until you already had your Dr. appointment. But it's come up that it's probably a good idea to ask for a bacterial culture instead of the usual wet-mount/whiff-test - so they can specifically identify exactly what is in your discharge. Perhaps next time.

As far as probiotics go, I've actually had pretty good results from Fem-dophilus (check out my blog for more info.) It's allegedly clinically proven to end up in your vagina after a week, so it's not all destroyed by bile.

I'll find the studies and add them to my blog later today.

I just wanted to make one bitch complaint about this bv, and then I'm going on a bv vacation for the rest of the day... Don't you all think that it's odd that a lot (not all)of us got this when we were prego? All I know is at my last doctor appointment, I'm laying nude on a paper sheet covering the bench..with shit dripping out of my snatch...seeping through the paper....How much time do you think busy offices take cleaning after exams??? Maybe I'm just germophobic. You should have seen the nasty case of pink eye I got when I was prego..had to throw away over two hundred dollars of make-up... Have no idea of how I got it....I wash my hands like a freak anyway.

Good Morning everyone!

I'm done with my period. I used the rephresh crap (but should have used it before I started my period. Bought some AZO yeast, gonna start taking that on a daily basis. (The discharge is a stinkin!) I'm also taking the ultimate flora) but only for a few days now. I spent about 100 bucks on vitamins and mineral supplements at my health found store. I seen a women who is an idologist (spelling not even close). She claims that she can read your eyes and know what aliments that your are suffering from. And well, she was right, and I didn't give her any help trying to discover my health issues either. I"m not sure I totally believe everything she said, becasue some of it was contridicting. But diferent foods do have different affects on people with regards to their blood type. She also told me that it took her two and half years of making changes in her diet before her asthma and pre-diabetic symtoms went away. It takes a long time for your body to recover from bad eating habits in the past. (Mine being almost 32 years of bad habits). Maybe many of you already do, but start drinking water, and plenty of it. My "water supply for years has been everything but water. It helps to maintain your ph too. Also, make sure you eat breafast, whether your trying to lose weight or not. It's very hard on your pancreas and every other cell in your body that has to go to stored supplies of energy and nutrients, robbing it from where ever it can. Oh, and if your stomach is empty all that is in it is acids and not good at all on digestive tract.

I'm gonna find a specialist somewhere close to me that is not in Muncie to treat me for my bv, and well, I guess I will just have to get into my savings that I have to pay the doctor..was saving to buy a house when I get finished with school....

To all the smokers...I have the chantix, it is suppose to work wonders..I know 6 people who have been smokers for 20 years + and haven't smoked for 8 months now!

Have a good day you all!

"a laboratory test that involves the growing of bacteria or other microorganisms to aid in the diagnosis."

Essentially, they send a sample of the discharge to a lab, put a sample on a petri dish and see what grows on it. It takes a week to two weeks to get the results. They're much more specific.

ok thanks!

Thats something i never heard of! But it sounds like it's worth a try. Besides what could we possibly lose? I'm a little confused though because I thought lemon is alkaline once it enters the body not acidic. Can you explain this better to me?

ilovehim: You are very correct. I looked it up. Actually once consumed lemon is in fact alkaline. But you should apparently eat 80/20 alkaline acid diet in order to promote the right ph balance. Things like sugars, dairy, meat, alcohol are actually acid foods and should be eaten marginally(20%)...Unfortunately I don't do this very well, which might explain my problems. I like thinking about this as a balance challenge. I do not believe in absolutes but I could gladly add several glasses of lemon water to a meal, canceling out smaller portions of good-but-bad foods like beer or meats. So both lemon and cayenne are alkaline forming which is good for your body's ph balance. Seems a little counterintuitive but the body works in mysterious ays.

"the body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur."

I too am curious as to whether or not anyone else has had an actual culture done. I don't want this question to be forgotten. I've noticed that so many posts can happen here that certain questions get forgotten or over looked. This one is important. anitsirhc, when you go see your doctor request a culture too. That's what I'm going to do.

Yeah, sorry I went into a big long story about what happened to me. Got a little carried away. But to sum up:

- the dull, crampy feeling may be a result of cervicitis (inflammation of cervix), which could be an indication that your upper genital tract *might* be involved

I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I don't think the pain is normal, and you should try to get to the bottom of it. If the doctor/RN tries to brush it aside like they did with me, don't let them.

One suggestion is - if you get antibiotics, get the oral rather than the vaginal gel/cream, because those target the lower genital tract. (Hopefully the pills won't make you sick and stuff.)

ok i'll probably make an appointment and go to planned parenthood on monday. right now it's kind of bad. worse than it's been before.

and i refuse to take antibiotics for this anymore so that won't happen. i hate antibiotics. and doctors. my doctor once prescribed me flagyl 500mg 3x a day (obviously too much) and i was throwing up and really sick.

but now i'm worried about going to the doctor cause i started the yeast arrest today and they always say "no gels or creams or anything inserted in the vagina 2 days before the apointment." how am i supposed to get tested? i dont' want to stop taking it. ughh this is all so frustrating!!!

oh, and don't be sorry about telling me your story haha.

alright i will tell my doctor about it when i go. i go to planned parenthood too. i haven't always had this crampy feeling with bv. i noticed it for a while when i first got bv (but i didn't have the pain until after my doctor gave me clindesse) and since then it's been on and off. it could be from my birth control too cause i kind of get pms symptoms when i start a new pack (like cravings, i eat so much crap whenever i start a new pack) and i just started it this week. but i will mention it to my doctor. i always thought cramps and back pain were normal symptoms. guess i was wrong! and i think i did have bv for a long time without knowing it also. i didn't know anything was wrong until my doctor told me (when i went for my annual pap.) and i always had discharge too, i just thought it was normal discharge. so i could have had it for a really long time without knowing.

Yes, if you go back on the boards, the discussion of HPV was brought up several times, and I think 1 person was diagnosed with it, but others were not. For me, I've had a partial hysterectomy, which means, I'm almost MAN!! Ok, just kidding, but, all they left in were my Ovaries.

I still "Ovulate", because I do still get cramps however, I DO NOT HAVE PERIODS obviously. My B.V. started about a year or so after the Hysterectomy. Started out small, then NOW, it's frequent. But, seriously, for me, the flagyl vaginally has been my biggest success to date, keeping it at bay for longer periods of time.

I do have 1 worry though. Do you all think, since obviously this is not a cure, that my body could start building up a resistance to the Flagyl vaginally??

I've researched inserting the pill vaginally, and find nothing on it. My doctor doesn't seemed concerned with anything bad happening to me, however, I didn't ask him about building up a resistance.

anitsirhc, with everything in life...everyone's symptoms are different!!! I don't get cramps with B.V. just a smell. Morphia get's burning, I don't. So, I would just watch it closely. If it get's worse, you might want to get checked out and make sure you're not developing a bladder infection or kidney infections.

Morphia... can you ask your doctor about entering the flagyl vaginally?? I told my doctors about this board, and when I try different things, they write them down, and do their own research!! OBVIOUSLY, I'm not the only person going in for this same issue!!!! But I'd be interested in knowing what our doctor says compared to mine!! Thanks!!
