The new, perfectly Snapchat-able frozen drink from Starbucks is already pissing people off. There’s a good chance your one friend from high school has already shared a photo of the Unicorn Drink’s nutrition label with a caption like, “Ummmm... no thanks! That’s more sugar than three Snicker’s bars! *puking emoji*” Media outlets have also joined in to inform-shame grown ass adults about what they’re putting in their bodies. BuzzFeed posted a groundbreaking article under their Health section titled, “Here’s What’s Actually In The Starbucks Unicorn Frappucino.”...
I used to joke with friends about how I’d prefer a boyfriend who lives far away: the less hassle and more independence I can retain in a relationship, the better. I was imagining a boyfriend who lived maybe a town or two away, ensuring we could see each other for a cuddle and what-have-you on weekends, but I could still keep the majority of my weeknights for early nights with a book or watching The Real Housewives...oh, um, I meant high-brow documentaries. Ahem. However, it turns...

As more states begin the process of marijuana legalization, the "public health vacuum" surrounding marijuana use gets smaller and smaller. Although studies that seek to empiricize the impact of marijuana on the lungs, on the pregnant body, and on long term health are still ongoing, anecdotal evidence — and other studies — suggest that marijuana use is not nearly as detrimental to our health as we once feared.  In fact, marijuana use comes with an inarguable range of health benefits! In celebration of 4/20, here are...
The first political protest has just hit space, according to the Autonomous Space Agency Network, or ASAN. ASAN is a Phoenix-based collective made up of scientists, engineers, artists and students with a passion for space. Wednesday marked the 56th anniversary of Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human in space. To celebrate, ASNA launched a weather balloon named Aphrodite 1, 90,000 feet into the air with a special message attached for our President. The balloon reads, “@realDonaldTrump LOOK AT THAT YOU SON OF A BITCH,"...
In January, Kentucky joined six other states that are down to just a single abortion provider. Now that President Trump has allowed states to withhold Federal X family planning to clinics that provide abortions, Kentucky’s sole clinic risks elimination. If EMW Women’s Surgical Clinic in Louisville closes, there will be zero abortion clinics in the state, making Kentucky the only state in the country with no access to safe and legal abortion. The women’s healthcare provider was most recently targeted when Republican Gov. Matt Bevin filed a...
Take avocado toast to the next level!By Chef Rossi The first time I heard about “avocado toast” was when a friend ordered it for brunch at an agonizingly hip eatery. “Ten dollars for toast with avocado on it?” I exclaimed. When her dish arrived, I understood. While I was dissecting undercooked eggs, she was feasting on thick bread piled with a mountain of green gold. But it’s cheap and easy to make at home, with plenty of twists, too. Awesome Avocado ToastFor two, use 4 slices of...
A Michigan doctor has been charged for allegedly performing female genital mutilation on two seven-year-old girls, according to a complaint filed by the FBI obtained by CBS's Detroit afilliate. Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, 44, was arrested Wednesday on charges of genital cutting, transporting minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and lying to federal agents. Female genital mutilation, or FGM, is practiced in about 30 countries as a means to reduce pleasure or promiscuity in girls and women, according to the World Health Organization. The procedure...
Does our current political situation have you wishing you’d paid more attention in civics class? This 101-style breakdown of the U.S. federal government will fill in the blanks so you can understand who’s got
what power, and how you can change things By Elizabeth KingIllustration by Molly Egan   Government is confusing. If we’re going to talk politics, it’s important to note that right off the bat. This stuff is messy and complicated, and it’s easy to get bogged down in all the rules and minutia. But don’t...
Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam was found dead on the bank of the Hudson River on Wednesday afternoon. Abdus-Salaam was both the first female Muslim U.S. judge and the first black woman appointed to the New York Court of Appeals.  According to the New York Post, her body showed no obvious signs of trauma or injury; authorities have told the Post that her death appeared to be a suicide. Abdus-Salaam, 65, had been reported missing from her home earlier that day. New York governor Andrew Cuomo called Abdus-Salaam a "trailblazing...
In yet another example of men’s comfort being prioritized over women’s safety, Tinder banned the woman behind the Instagram account @WhyDidYouSwipeRightTho, Bianca Lentini. On Instagram, Lentini showcases the daily threats of rape, deportation, and death she receives from male Tinder users. Posting screenshots from her Tinder, she shows how she comes back at these threats with humor, knowledge, and a cutting wit. Recently, she also has been reporting the men for violating Tinder’s terms of service. Unsurprisingly, Tinder has banned none of these men. To be a...
