Sodafine sale in BK

BY Lisa in General

Sodafine, one of my fave stores in Brooklyn, is having a Trunk show/Sidewalk sale this Saturday so if you’re in New York, swing by! The designers from Dear Birthday, Popomomo, and SDN (love them!) will be there giving shoppers a sneak peek at fall designs. There will also be sale items! And snacks! In addition to being super awesome in general, Sodafine also stocks recent BUST fashionista gals, San Francisco-based She-bible. Shop till you drop. Read More

Totally "Toxic"

BY Lisa in General

“Learn to play the ukulele” has been on my to-do list since we ran the awesome “Uke Spirit” article in our Aug/Sept ’07 issue, which highlighted a handful of fabulous ladies rocking the adorable instrument. Of course, my pink sparkly Mahalo has just been collecting dust in my room while I do a million other things but a recent visit from my friend Lana, who plays a mean uke herself, has re-inspired me. She showed me this video and now I can’t wait to get plucking. Read More

Hot mess.

Inclement weather meant I spent Saturday night in, but a few things made it a fabulous evening: fresh-baked snickerdoodles (thanks Caroline!), the bottle of wine we polished off, and catching Amy Poehler’s spoof of my Project Runway love, Christian Siriano. Not to mention the always awesome Bill Hader as the always awesome Tim Gunn and Amy Adams doing a fierce Heidi Klum. Read More

You put your jewels in here

BY Lisa in General

It’s always so hard to pick the prods that get featured in the mag, there’s no way we could include everything we love. So here’s a lil’ somethin’ I wish could’ve made it into the “Treasure Chest” part of April/May’s jewelry box BUY or DIY. These new, too cute boxes from Nooworks (click here to see all the designs) are the perfect place to stash your flash. Read More

Art Jam

Last week I had the opportunity to check out the new shows at N.Y.C.’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Talk about awesome. It’s a double whammy featuring two amazing gals: Tara McPherson (who you might recognize from our Feb/Mar ’07 issue) and Lori Earley. Tara’s show, “Lost Constellations,” features her signature supergirls (my faves are the ones who sport killer KISS-like makeup) in gorgeous oil paintings with a room of resin-cast sculptures in shiny candy colors. This is Burlesque

New Yorkers, get out your to-do list and put this on there: Buy tix for This is Burlesque at Corio in SoHo. Non-New Yorkers, make sure you hit this up the next time you’re in town. In fact, I recommend planning your trip around it. You will have the most. fun. ever. I hit it up last week and have been talking about it ever since, Laurie went last night and loved it. Read More

Siri-ous Style

BY Lisa in General

I’m always on the lookout for gals with sweet style because a) I’m hoping their fashion know-how will somehow rub off on me and b) working on the first page of our Looks section, where I get to interview a lovely lady about her steez, is one of my favorite parts of the mag. Siri Thorson, our style maven-of-the-moment, is too cute for words. I found her through her blog, Ringo, have a banana!, where she endearingly muses about everything from the pair of shoes she’s stalking on eBay to her fave thrift scores. But mostly it’s a visual feast of her killer vintage look. Read More
