Beth Höeckel, a 33 year old Baltimore native, makes beautiful and dreamy art. Her collages will simply blow your mind. They are creepy and sometimes sad, weird and nostalgic. Höeckel uses vintage magazine images (often of women) and places them in space age moonscapes, or against ominous skies, often with their backs to us, gazing at the freaky landscapes she creates. I just love these so much!

I got very lucky and scored a ticket to see Björk’s BIOPHILIA live show last night at the Hall of Science out in Queens, and I’m so glad I made the trip. Performed on a round stage in the middle of the circular building, underneath a giant Tesla Coil, Björk was flanked on all sides by what everyone knows is THE secret weapon to a compelling show: A chorus of 20 girls! (just ask Karen O!). The voices of the chorus of young women (they are from ... Read More

The snow is falling here again, and the Sundance Film Festival is still plowing through the town of Park City. I’ve been to 21 films so far and the main theme that I’ve noticed is the overwhelming presence of strong female leads and women directors. One of the hottest films here is Beasts of the Southern Wild, a truly original film that takes place in the swamps of Louisiana, and stars a six year old girl named Quvanzhand Wallis.

We sent our favorite photographer (and Laurie’s main squeeze) Michael Lavine to The Sundance Film Festival to check out the festival and report back to us on what’s good this year.
While deeply entrenched in the insanity known as Sundance, I spend most of my time shuttling from theater to theater, waiting in line, watching movies and then talking to strangers about said movies while waiting in another line ... Read More

Ok, I’m gonna duck and cover here, and say I don’t hate Lana Del Rey. Maybe I don’t care enough to have such strong feelings, but I’m truly perplexed by the deep hatred people have for her. Even here in the BUST office, Team Lana only comprises about 30 percent of the staff. You’d think she’d murdered kittens while wearing an NRA tube top. Look, she’s no Adele in the singing department, and yes, I object to a 24-year-old ... Read More

Oh man, I miss the Cramps! Thanks to an intrepid tweeter over at @thingsfromhere, I was reminded that way back in 2004 we ran a little piece in BUST where we asked the Cramps' Lux Interior and Poison Ivy to make us a Christmas Mix tape. They called it Black Christmas, natch. It's full of early Rock n Roll gems like Christmas in jail, by the Youngsters, and Don't believe in Christmas by the Sonics. Here is a link to it, with the MP3s - Enjoy!
Sadly we lost Lux a ... Read More

As IF you needed a reason to go downtown tomorrow and celebrate the amazing movement that is waking up America. Lou Reed & Patti Smith are scheduled to play on Saturday, December 17th – the three month anniversary of Occupy Wall St., the birthday of Bradley Manning, and the 1 year anniversary of the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi – the act that sparked the Arab Spring.

Our beloved Patsy and Edina are back with a new episode of Absolutely Fabulous to air on BBC America on January 8th! We've been hearing of the reunion for quite some time and are THRILLED with the news. Since originally airing 20 years ago (really? has it been that long?) Ab Fab, the brilliant British sitcom created by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French, has yet to have been knocked off its pedestal of comedic genius. Not since maybe Lucy and Ethel were ... Read More

Last night I got to go to a concert at Irving Plaza to see some of my favorite people perform some of my favorite songs. It was called the Starkid SPACE Tour, and yes it sounds stupid, but they are really the funniest, most talented group of people ever. I waited in line with my friends (fellow 8th graders) for 5 hours, and when we finally got in it was extremely cramped but it was still exciting just to be there. The crowd was made up of 99% girls, probably ... Read More

I never get tired of John Roberts! His fans know him from his Mom character on Youtube (the "star" of 2006's amazing "Look at the tree!" video), as well as the obnoxious teen Debra (from the "Jackie and Debra" video), and the voice of delightfully abrasive Linda Belcher on Bob's Burgers. This guy is so good, if he was on Saturday Night Live, I'd go back to watching it. Here's his latest creation, "Bald with a Blue Tooth." Prepare to be seduced.
