For years, archaeologists have believed the first cave-paintings to be composed predominantly by men. "There has been a male bias in the literature for a long time," says archaeologist Dean Snow. But now, new research has the field thinking it was women who were behind the art all along.  The aforementioned homie Dean Snow recently studied the outlines of handprints found in French and Spanish cave art. By analyzing the lengths of the fingers, Snow concluded that no less than 75% of the handprints found were created by women. Read More

Disenfranchise: verb. to deprive of a legal right, or of some privilege or immunity; especially : to deprive of the right to vote.  The Texas GOP is putting that word to use in the sneakiest way possible: starting November 5th, a voter must show identification with his or her most current, legally recognized name. I say his or her...but when was the last time a "he" you know had a name different from as it reads on his birth certificate? Rather, this new law has honed in on the constituency of married women who haven't updated their identification to reflect a changed last name. Read More
Ahhh...the sweet smell of awesome women: According to a new report compiled at the University of Montreal, lady doctors out-perform their male counterparts in every way. Yes, all of them.  The study observed the diabetes-related care provided by 870 physicians, with even numbers of male and female participants. The participants were scored on three different levels of diabetic care: prescribing eye exams, scheduling physicals, and prescribing a special mix of medications. In every category, men were outperformed by women. Read More
Until today, the lack of LGBT representation among Disney characters had never occurred to me, simply because it seemed so incredibly implausible that it wasn't even worth the frustration. The pinnacle of "wholesome family values" bringing a lil' diversity into the mix? Psssh! But as it turns out, I've never been so happy to be proven wrong. This past Sunday, the Disney-ABC show "Once Upon a Time" featured a sniffle-inducing scene in which Mulan (nearly!) reveals her hidden feelings for Princess Aurora, A.K.A. "Sleeping Beauty. Read More
Ahh Wikipedia...truly my oldest and most treasured childhood friend. Without ye, so many A- papers would be mere C+’s...So many useless facts would remain unknown...Truly a bleak world would exist if not for Wikipedia. Yet, statistics show that less than 15% of Wikipedia contributors are female. Could it be that my heart and soul has been devoted the most patriarchal website of them all?! Say it ain’t so! The debate on why such a huge gender gap exists on such a supposedly “open” platform is inconclusive. Read More
Ever notice how all “nude” heels are really just the same ambiguous tone that somehow complements only Christina Aguilera's spray-tan? Fortunately, for we lesser beings, legendary designer Christian Louboutin is about to change that. The shoe-guru is launching the “Nudes” collection, featuring five of his most famous designs in five shades that range from a dainty petal to a rich coffee. “They disappear like magic and become a fluid extension of her legs, as in a sketch, elongating the silhouette,” said the designer. Though we didn’t need scientific research to confirm that sexual violence is a major problem among young adults, the statistics are now official: A study appearing in the journal JAMA Pediatrics surveyed 1,058 young adults and the revolting results indicated that 8% of Americans between the ages of 14 and 21 have committed some form of sexual violence, defined as “kissing, touching, or making someone else do something sexual” when the perpetrator “knew the other person did not want to.” 3% verbally coerced a victim into sex, or attempted physical force.
