Designer Tara Subkoff is creating fashion for thrifty cool girls while simultaneously challenging narrow beauty and style ideals.  She put on an exceptional show for her Spring 2013 line for her label, Imitation of Christ.  The aptly titled "This Is Not a Fashion Show" moved away from the idea that fashion has to be flawless and fall into the weird notions of what's considered beautiful or desirable. The three members of Pussy Riot who are currently imprisoned (Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich) are fighting against being relocated from Moscow to a remote penal colony somewhere hundreds of miles away.  There’s a possibility of the three women being set free on October 1 when they’ll head back to court to find out if their two year prison sentence has been repealed.  The women don’t seem to think this is a likely outcome considering the government is still upset with their past brazenness. Global Times has spotlighted some awesome feminists in China who have recently staged various grassroots protests that go beyond writing articles or giving speeches.  They focus on pressing women’s issues like sexual harassment and workplace and financial inequality.  China is a more difficult environment to protest in, as feminism is less accepted there than in the United States (and a lot of people in the U.S. aren’t down with feminism either). BUST cover girl and all-around awesome lady Tavi Gevinson was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, and we just about plotzed. Jimmy even held up the Aug/Sept issue of BUST, featuring Tavi in all her glory.   We have such a lady crush on Tavi and her site Rookie.
