Musical legend and founder of The Velvet Underground, John Cale is bringing his highly anticipated concert Life Along the Borderline: A Tribute to Nico to BAM this season, and it promises to be pretty special.

As part of the Next Wave Festival, Cale is performing the one night only concert of Nico songs on January 16th, featuring Kim Gordon, Joan as Police Woman, Mark Lanegan, Magnetic Fields, Meshell Ndegeocello, Peaches, and Sharon Van Etten, among others. Cale has been doing different variations of this show over the years, and we’ll be very curious to see how this group interprets the great chanteuse and ice princess, Nico. The highly influential singer, known for her somber and dirgelike songs, rose to fame in the mid-1960s when she performed with the Velvet Underground (at the urging of Andy Warhol). She went on to create several solo albums, but she never attained the success of her peers, and eventually became heavily addicted to heroin. She died in 1988 as a result of a bicycle accident. Of course Cale was a longtime friend and collaborator, having produced most of her albums. This concert, which will be performed in the stunning Opera House, is sure to sell out, so make sure to get your tickets soon.

Cale will also be performing his beautiful 1973 album Paris 1919 on January 18+19th.
