How is this legal? That’s the first question you'll have when you hear about Jailbait, a subsection on Reddit, the social news site that lets people submit content through links. Jailbait features scantily clad pictures of underage girls, some as young as 13 years old. The photos are often taken from Facebook profiles and other social networking sites. If that wasn’t bad enough, the message board has a rule: no tattoos, because "generally, girls have to be of the age of consent to get a tattoo."

Go to the Jailbait page and you’ll see thumbnail photos with little teaser descriptions. One classic I saw:  “Can’t wait to see what she looks like in 5 years or so.” Honestly, I don’t think you’re going to stay out of jail long enough to find out.

On other Reddit pages they list how many “readers” have signed up for the page. With the Jailbait page the readers are given the hilarious title of “potential felons.” Good one guys! Nothing funnier than pedophilia.

With subsections devoted to photos of dead babies and women who’ve been beaten, Reddit isn’t known for being classy. But the message board’s owner, Advance Publications—also Condé Nast’s parent company—is. Or with magazines like The New Yorker and Vogue, one would like to think they are.

According to Reddit's General Manager, Erik Martin, the Jailbait section was shut down last month because of “overzealous moderators.” The page has been back up since September 1.

How do you feel about the site being reinstated? Is it freedom of speech or just a site for perverts to get off to?
